Used this bulb is an overhead fixture (Not recessed in ceiling) under normal daily use - being 2-3 hours per day. Bulb failed in less than 2 years of use. Electric cost savings not worth the price of the bulb. I gave 2 stars because the lighting was excellent.

The CREE 100W daylight is a great light in my unfinished basement and even in my outdoor light fixtures, I noticed a tremendous improvement in switching from CFL to CREE LED. Also I leave many outside lights on for security at night and have seen the difference in my electrical bill in going from incandesce to LED. I'm so impressed with LED lighting by CREE that I just purchased 12 LED BR30 CREE bulbs for my new garage as they work well in unheated garages.

I have solar so I don't really need to conserve energy but I wanted to take the next step. I put these in my recessed lights in the kitchen and in a hallway with two pantries without lights. They are so bright it's almost like daylight. I can now see the items much better in the pantries. My eyes are getting older and these really helped. People can't believe how bright they are and how white. I never liked soft white bulbs.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Coastal Great Light but wish they had high CRI version
Using in single bulb ceiling lights, ceiling fan fixtures, and in standing torche lamps. Great light tone, easy on eyes. Can be a postitive or negetive depending on use light spreads perpendicular 360 with led inside shaded coated glass cover limiting light spread to top and bottom of bulb. Unfortionately appears Cree has discontinued much of their TW (True White) line, this bulb has a CRI of 80, their older 40 and 60 equivelents use to be available in TW also with a CRI of 93. Come on Cree ad a high watt equiv high CRI to your line up. NOTE: I do not recomend the 3-Way version of this 100 watt equiv, lasted 2 months, the Cree bulb failure I have had.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mike Bulb burned out
I spent for expensive lightbulbs for a long term investment when I purchased six Cree bulbs less than two years ago at Home Depot. Used most of them in single-switch series overhead bathroom fixture (non-dimming). We use these bulbs on average 2-3 hours max burn time a day. Bulb burned out far faster (< 2 years) than the 18+ years life which Cree advertised. From reading through the number of reviews today from customers who have had similar or faster burn out issues, it seems like the other Cree bulbs I have in the same overhead light series are likely to go sooner rather than later. Quality of lighting was very good, but early burn-out is a bad deal.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JAU73 Great Light Output, But Only Lasted One Month??
We have been using Cree bulbs in our bathroom to replace the clear halogen type bulbs for over a year, and they have been fantastic so we started converting the rest of the house to them. I have a Cree 3 way bulb in my office that is used 8+ hours a day and the light output is fantastic and recently put the 100W Daylight in the garage which made a huge difference. We bought two of them about a month ago and within a week one failed so we took it back and exchanged it for another one, and a few days ago the other one failed which I chalked up to just being a bad batch. When we went to exchange it a couple days ago, there were none of them in stock in any of the stores within 100 miles and not even a tag for them on the shelf anymore, so we settled for a 75w which is a step down and literally pales in comparison to the 100w Daylight bulb that is working.
I noticed that the section where the Cree bulbs are has clearance price tags which either means that HD is discontinuing them or there are re-designed bulbs being released and they want to clear out the old stock. Either way, trying to find this bulb is now very difficult and I am concerned if there is an inherent problem with the circuitry. We talked to a few employees about the issue and asked why there were none to be found, but no one had an answer.
Transparency would be appreciated.
