Can this light be used in a bowl for the light on the ceiling fan?

Asked by: BTB601
In the "fine print" on the base of the light, just above the metal threaded portion, are the words "suitable for damp locations" and "not for use in enclosed fixtures". So, based on the very short operational life I got from mine, I would not use it in a bowl type enclosure or any type of application.

What is the total height of this bulb?

I have a bathroom vent fan light light that has two 75w equivalent compact florescents that I want more light from. They are pretty compact florescents, and there is no extra room fora bigger bulb. How compact is this LED bulb?
Asked by: Steve2
Approximately 123 millimeters

Can You use these in Cambridge garage door openers ?

Asked by: Woody
Fine print on the base of the bulb states "not for use in enclosed fixtures". And my burned out way earlier than 22.5 years so buyer beware.

The light output and colour are great, but eventually start to flicker and die. I've had three of these fail within a year. Sadly I've lost the receipt. It gets a poor rating from me, as multiple $20 bulbs shouldn't be failing at this rate, even with a warranty. All three have stopped working because of a power supply issue ( the leds inside I keep, and work perfectly fine). While the LEDs may have the advertised life span on their own, the power supplies seem to have a much shorter life. The last bulb that failed, I've decided to tear apart and have a look at the potted (Silastic?) board. The culprit is rather obvious. I wont go into the details of the resistor, but I will try to up date this review when the next bulb fails.

TEN TIMES the price of an incandescent, but one third of the lifespan... WAYYYY too much trouble changing these things out over and over again. The light quality is superior to any incandescent but it's not worth the trouble for a 17 dollar bulb over a 1.25 dollar bulb...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Short lifespan It's very bright but don't last long. Has a very short lifespan like few months rather than 22yrs as stated on packaging. For $22 a pop outrageous price. I bought 20 if these and 5 went out within only months

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I was a believer in Cree for years because they have the best LED's in flashlights like Surefire'... I was a believer in Cree for years because they have the best LED's in flashlights like Surefire's that our Military uses and when they came out with light bulbs I thought this will be great, buy a bulb and never have to replace it for years and years. Boy was I wrong. Initially, the bulbs seem perfect, you somehow rationalize the cost of paying 10's and 20's of dollars for these and you get home and install them and they look great. Days and weeks go by and they still look great and work great. Then, after a few months they start having problems. I have some in our bathroom in a brand new fixture and they start flickering, they start not working, and eventually they just quit. I also have a dining room with a fixture and have 5 of them, they just randomly quit working in it. I sometimes have to twist them and then they start again. Sometimes they don't work, sometimes they do, and eventually a few just quit. I have already called Cree and they replaced both sets of bulbs in the fixtures, I am on my second set of bulbs and the same problem is now happening AGAIN. I have not had these more than a year, its terrible. I have spent several hundreds of dollars on bulbs throughout my house and they just stop working eventually way before 10 years which is their warranty. You will all have the same problem sooner or later, I promise you. I will also tell you its not specific to Cree, I have tried other bulbs and same problem. (think about it, why would a company make a bulb that lasts forever) :) --- they wouldn't!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality. Poor warranty These were about $20 each. A couple failed under Home Depot's warranty. HD was terrific. When we fell into Cree's warranty, everything changed. The other reviews confirm this. When you select a light that's supposed to last ten years, you don't plan to be left in the dark. We've also had issues with 60 watt bulbs. Will never buy Cree again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money The light output and power consumption for these bulbs were initially pretty amazing, however they didn't last long before they started flickering and ultimately went out as you can see in the attached pictures of burned out LED's. Cree has a warranty, but you pay for shipping, which is more hassle then I have time for, so not really a good warranty. For the price these should be indestructible. I would recommend staying away from these bulbs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Bulbs I have six of these bulbs in my living room and home office lamps and am very satisfied with them. I'm glad that Cree offers a clean, white daylight 5000k version of the bulb since I dislike the yellow-amber color of "soft white" bulbs. The bulb does get warm after its been on a while, but no where near as hot as a tungsten bulb. The base, however, gets scalding hot, hence the cooling fins around it. I don't think an LED bulb generates as much heat as a tungsten bulb, but definately don't touch it after its been on all evening. I'm sold on LED bulbs and am looking forward to the next increase in equivalent wattage bulbs from Cree.
