Can this light be used in a bowl for the light on the ceiling fan?

Asked by: Ben
In the "fine print" on the base of the light, just above the metal threaded portion, are the words "suitable for damp locations" and "not for use in enclosed fixtures". So, based on the very short operational life I got from mine, I would not use it in a bowl type enclosure or any type of application.

What is the total height of this bulb?

I have a bathroom vent fan light light that has two 75w equivalent compact florescents that I want more light from. They are pretty compact florescents, and there is no extra room fora bigger bulb. How compact is this LED bulb?
Asked by: Steve
Approximately 123 millimeters

Can You use these in Cambridge garage door openers ?

Asked by: Woody
Fine print on the base of the bulb states "not for use in enclosed fixtures". And my burned out way earlier than 22.5 years so buyer beware.

Customer Reviews

100W Equivalent Daylight (5000K) A21 Dimmable LED Light Bulbs (5-Pack) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality. Poor warranty These were about $20 each. A couple failed under Home Depot's warranty. HD was terrific. When we fell into Cree's warranty, everything changed. The other reviews confirm this. When you select a light that's supposed to last ten years, you don't plan to be left in the dark. We've also had issues with 60 watt bulbs. Will never buy Cree again.

The light output and colour are great, but eventually start to flicker and die. I've had three of these fail within a year. Sadly I've lost the receipt. It gets a poor rating from me, as multiple $20 bulbs shouldn't be failing at this rate, even with a warranty. All three have stopped working because of a power supply issue ( the leds inside I keep, and work perfectly fine). While the LEDs may have the advertised life span on their own, the power supplies seem to have a much shorter life. The last bulb that failed, I've decided to tear apart and have a look at the potted (Silastic?) board. The culprit is rather obvious. I wont go into the details of the resistor, but I will try to up date this review when the next bulb fails.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Bulbs I have six of these bulbs in my living room and home office lamps and am very satisfied with them. I'm glad that Cree offers a clean, white daylight 5000k version of the bulb since I dislike the yellow-amber color of "soft white" bulbs. The bulb does get warm after its been on a while, but no where near as hot as a tungsten bulb. The base, however, gets scalding hot, hence the cooling fins around it. I don't think an LED bulb generates as much heat as a tungsten bulb, but definately don't touch it after its been on all evening. I'm sold on LED bulbs and am looking forward to the next increase in equivalent wattage bulbs from Cree.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a happy camper! I had to order the 5 pack twice, the first time it arrived with a broken bulb. The second box arrived okay and I installed all, but I had my first failure after 2 weeks. The second failure just occurred now after 3 months. If I could return the whole box I would do so and buy Phillips at half the price!!! I'm not sure but what the problem could be shipping damage, these bulbs came with packing at the bottom of the box, but none at the top. Both boxes arrived the same way! My understanding was they were shipped from Cree!! I'M NOT IMPRESSED!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The"Standard" All Other Led Bulbs Should Be Compared To I just purchased 20 of these bulbs to replace some compact fluorescent bulbs. I used 10 of them in my garage and all I can say is "WOW", These babies are bright! I have 2 ceiling fans outside under my patio that had 3 candelabra base 800 lumen CFL's in each of them. I replaced the bulb fixtures with the standard sized bulb fixtures and I went from 4800 lumens to 9600 lumens, "WOW" again! and they dim very well. Overall I say these bulbs are Excellent. I rated the value as good because I think it's insane to have to pay $20 for each bulb when you can get a tablet with tons more electronics in them for as low as $49, Anyways I highly recommend them and I wish Home Depot would hurry up and offer them in all stores because they are shooting themselves in the foot by only selling them online.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money The light output and power consumption for these bulbs were initially pretty amazing, however they didn't last long before they started flickering and ultimately went out as you can see in the attached pictures of burned out LED's. Cree has a warranty, but you pay for shipping, which is more hassle then I have time for, so not really a good warranty. For the price these should be indestructible. I would recommend staying away from these bulbs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love the white, bright light...but... All this talk about a 22.5 year lifespan is just that, talk. Since ANY bulb that's failed HAS to be under warranty--they've only been around for a few years--requiring a receipt and paid postage just makes the bulb that much more expensive. I believe there must be better alternatives. For those of us who forked out big dough for these bulbs, Cree should waive requiring receipts and do what's right--replace our short-lived bulbs... I should note, I very much liked the light produced while it lasted--around a year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE quality. Was ECSTATIC about the initial purchase. Cut a hundred dollars off of my electric bill. GREAT light quality & nice appearance/build quality. Converted the entire house to them. Then, 6 months later, they all started to burn out. I'm on my 6th or 7th now in 2 years. 22 year lifespan? Try 6 month life span. On my way back to Home Depot AGAIN to exchange a set. This is getting REEEAAAL old... I'm going to just start changing them back with the old nasty 70's nicotine yellow incandescent bulbs again. At least they last more than 6 months. I have over 80 bulbs converted to LEDs and they're all going to go back at one point. My TCP candelabra bulbs are all going back too. Just burned out two more of those as well; 10 in all thus far in the last 2 years. One more time & I'm getting ALL my money back.
