What causes this light to flicker?

One of my CREE 60W started to flicker. I've moved it to another lamp and it is flickering there as well. Any idea what causes this and is there a solution to fix it? The bulb is about a year old.

The failure rate on these bulbs is ridiculously high and the warranty requires that you send them to the manufacturer with proof of purchase. I purchased enough of these to replace all the light bulbs in my home and in my rental properties. I have had multiple failures within months, not years. I also discovered that if you put these bulbs in a garage door opener, they will cause enough interference to prevent the remotes from working consistently. I am hugely disappointed and wish that the Home Depot would begin carrying an alternative brand that is more reliable and/or less expensive.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They don't last These looked good in the store, promising more than a decade of use, but they don't last. I bought five and after 12 months two have died and one is dying, despite only being used for a couple of hours per day. Sadly, I can't find the receipt, otherwise all of these would be on their way back to Cree. In frustration, I took one apart to try to identify the cause of the failure. As always, it is the electronics which fail. The LEDs themselves work perfectly when connected individually to an external DC power supply, but the internal electronics which convert the 110V AC electricity to DC have failed. I do not recommend buying these and I don't trust the claims made by the manufacturer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They were good at first but not over the long haul. I bought a house a couple years ago and the previous owners stripped it of nearly every light bulb. (They also took the mailbox for crying out loud!) So I decided this was as good a time as any to make the switch to LED. I bought a pack of these Cree "60 watt" soft white bulbs and they seemed great. So I bought another 20 or so to put in every A19 socket around the house. Two bulbs quickly died. One was in a closet and the other was in a room I rarely used. Flipped the switch and nothing. Probably had less than an hour of use between them. Since then, I've had another one die completely (also in a rarely-used fixture) and 6 others have begun to fail. Two flash and flicker. The other four are losing elements in the ring of LEDs. The flickering bulbs and the bulbs losing brightness are all in high-use fixtures. It seems pretty clear that these bulbs won't last anywhere close to the 22.8 years estimated by Cree when a third of mine have failed or degraded noticeably in less than 2 years. I don't see any point in paying a premium price for these bulbs. May as well just buy three times as many cheap bulbs for the same price and swap them out when they fail. Also, the inner coating of the bulb that gives it a "frosted" look becomes less opaque the longer the bulb is in use. The ones that died early still look frosted. The dying bulbs I took out of the fixtures today are nearly clear in places. There's just a slight haze left from the original coating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HIGH FAILURE RATE IS UNACCEPTABLE I relamped my home with Cree LED lamps, mostly the 60 watt equivalent. I have one 100 watt equivalent bulb also. I am into Cree for 12 lamps. Out of those 12 lamps tonight I have had my third failure. I am disappointed. I have had one replaced under warranty direct from Cree and they included a second bulb for free since it took so long to replace the one. ( three emails and more than a month ) I have started to look in to other LED lighting to replace the burned out Cree bulbs. I offered to ship them back so they could do quality control on them but they didn't send a box with return postage. Oh well. Good luck.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent light output but one of the two bulbs I bought lasted only 26 months Bought two of these bulbs at HD in November 2013 and installed them in the overhead fixture in my master bedroom. One of them burned out in January 2016, so it lasted only 26 months, far less than the manufacturer's 120 month rating. The other bulb is still working after 27 months. The exterior of the frosted glass has a rubbery coating on it and this coating is sticky on both bulbs. I don't recall if they were like that when I bought them. I paid $12.97 each for these bulbs at HD. I was pleased with the quality of the light but the short lifetime has persuaded me to try another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failure Rate I'm sorry I didn't read the one (1) star reviews before purchasing. We purchased four (4) bulbs less than a year ago. One bulb is now intermittent - randomly turns off/on when power is applied. When I purchased I liked the 10 year warranty and the fact they were made in the US. Well the warranty is a joke as it will cost as much to ship back to Cree as it will for a new bulb. While infant mortality is to be expected with any product, others also seem to indicate a roughly 25% failure rate after a few months. A rate that high is unacceptable - so much for Made in the US. As for being eco-friendly, if it needs to be landfilled after several months I think the standard incandescent bulb contributes less waste.
