To get the full energy-saving benefit of LED bulbs, do I need to also purchase the LED conversion kit for my recessed lights? If not, then why would customers pay the additional expense for the conversion kit on top of the expensive LED bulbs? Thx.

Answer:
They will replace an existing br 30 bulb with the same base type with no modifications needed. Some dimmers are better than others at controlling these bulbs. I have heard from an electrician there are no dimmer manufacturers who have really perfected it.

No need for the kit, just swap out. The replacement kit may give a different affect than the original bulb is my guess.

Answer:
You do not need a conversion kit but there is a higher risk of tripping the circuit breaker, the light bulb's life is shortened, the bulb might not fit correctly, and the bulb might not be dimmable without.

Answer:
Package states, in damp areas not under direct weather or water contact. My guess is that water may get into the socket and possibly short it out. I have mine in canisters to illuminate my front stoop and back porch area with no issues. They don't come in direct contact with water, unless it's sprayed up at it.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 402 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer BEWARE I did very much research for the best LED bulb only to be completely DISAPPOINTED with the results. In an effort to "save" on our lighting costs I replaced all of our can lights and regular lamp bulbs with nothing but CREE brand. It took a few months to complete since each bulb was about $20 each (44 bulbs) -- it is now 14 months later and I have "lost"12 bulbs. That's a 72% success rate. My old $1 incandescent lasted longer than these TEN YEAR bulbs. These bulbs were the best and the closest we could find that look like the old incandescent bulbs and this is why we went with CREE. They are much cheaper in price now, but still not worth it. STAY AWAY from CREE. These bulbs are NO GOOD. I only wish I had waited until this year with many better choices now. It really should not take too long to have them all replaced at the rate that these are going bad, June 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good color of light. This is a good bulb and I really like that it is assembled in the US. The light from it is indistinguishable from an incandescent. I did prefer the last generation of this bulb, however. Unlike the last generation, this bulb has a fraction of a second of hesitation before coming on. That is noticeable since this kitchen switch lights 3 of these, one of the last generation, and a standard style LED in an enclosed fixture. February 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LED housing separating and light does not work this BR30 replacement was purchased in the last year. It does not light up, but when wiggled, it flickers on and off. Closer inspection reveals the white base is ever-so-slightly loose from the heat diffuser. It moves perhaps a 1/64th of an inch. Not sure if this is why it is broken. But either way, mailing something like this back to the manufacturer months down the line is a bit unrealistic for most folks. I have generally good results with Cree LED type A bulb replacements in the past. February 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by High failure rate I bought 8 of these bulbs. The package prominently proclaims, "10 YEAR WARRANTY." I was surprised when after two weeks the bulbs started failing. It starts with a flicker; then after a few days the bulb is dead. After one year 7 of the 8 bulbs had failed. The only way to redeem the warranty is to package up the bulb and send it to North Carolina. The cost to send the bulb is almost as much as the cost of the bulb itself. I'm very disappointed in this product. January 14, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Two out of four failed within one year Installed this set of 4 bulbs on 6/5/15 and as of 5/23/16 two of the bulbs have died within days of each other. They were used in recessed lighting fixtures located in the kitchen. They were turned off daily before we went to bed. As of now the other two bulbs seem to be fine but I don't have much confidence in a lengthy life span. May 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Looking Bulbs I replaced 30 can lights with these to save energy costs. Based on how much we have our lights on I would say the payback is only one year. It was hard to spend that much money up front but IF the bulbs last at least several years it will be well worth it. The soft white looks really good and they actually appear brighter than the normal bulbs. They only dim about halfway but that is fine as I have no need to dim to near darkness. For a theater room they may be a little brighter than I prefer but we just turn the lights off during movies anyway. Definitely hold onto your receipt and put it in a special warranty file just to be safe. Very happy with this purchase. April 29, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 50% of bulbs burned out very early. Bought these perhaps 18 months ago. Installed 8 in recessed cans, used under ordinary indoor living conditions. 3 have failed outright, 1 flickers incessantly. I'm a fan of other Cree products, but how can that outweigh the cost/failure rate here? November 12, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk, don't buy them I bought 6 of these bulbs in November 2014 and within the last few months, 3 of them have failed with the 3rd one being today. They have a dim flicker, almost as if they were dimmed down to 5%. I don't have dimmable light switches so I know that isn't the case. Save your money and stay away from this product. March 14, 2016
