Customer Questions & Answers

Do I need LED conversion kit in order to use LED bulbs?

To get the full energy-saving benefit of LED bulbs, do I need to also purchase the LED conversion kit for my recessed lights? If not, then why would customers pay the additional expense for the conversion kit on top of the expensive LED bulbs? Thx.
Asked by: hannah
They will replace an existing br 30 bulb with the same base type with no modifications needed. Some dimmers are better than others at controlling these bulbs. I have heard from an electrician there are no dimmer manufacturers who have really perfected it.

Does this bulb work only with dimmer switches or is it good with standard off.on switch?

Asked by: Mamma1
I don't have it on a dimmer, but packaging states that it will work on a dimmer.

We too had had a flickering issue with these bulbs, two of 8 original bulbs exhibit this flickering. The worst of the two, the base is slightly loose at the heat sink. We love the light these bulbs provide, but less than 2 years and a 20% failure rate is not acceptable for such an expensive bulb. Every other Cree product we have had has been exceptional, I think they had a manufacturing issue with this particular bulb...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ten Year Life is a Joke I purchased nine of the Cree BR30 bulbs from Home Depot eleven months ago. I have been very impressed with the light they provide and the dimming. I have been extremely disappointed with the claimed lifespan. Ten years is a joke. In the past eleven months, three of the nine bulbs have started to flicker and then go out completely. The first failure I sent back to Cree for a replacement, but had to pay over $6.00 in postage and handling just to return it. After the hassle of returning the first bulb, I just went ahead and purchased another Cree bulb to replace the second failure. Now that a third Cree bulb has failed, I WILL NOT be purchasing another. I'll be looking at less expensive, more highly rated bulbs instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Looking Bulbs I replaced 30 can lights with these to save energy costs. Based on how much we have our lights on I would say the payback is only one year. It was hard to spend that much money up front but IF the bulbs last at least several years it will be well worth it. The soft white looks really good and they actually appear brighter than the normal bulbs. They only dim about halfway but that is fine as I have no need to dim to near darkness. For a theater room they may be a little brighter than I prefer but we just turn the lights off during movies anyway. Definitely hold onto your receipt and put it in a special warranty file just to be safe. Very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT!!! After buying and returning several LED bulbs that failed to produce a true warm light, I finally found an LED that is a perfect match to an incandescent! I have 4 of these in my kitchen side by side with 4 incandescents and you can not tell them apart (see photo). They match the light tone and color and the bulb looks exactly the same. Perfect in every way!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cree BR30 LED Bulbs Installed 8 of these in basement to replace incandescent bulbs. Did quite a bit of research online before choosing these. I ordered 4 packs online and saved $$.These LED bulbs are brighter than the 60W incandescent bulbs they replaced, but still have the "soft" white light. Dim down to ~30% with standard dimmer(10+ years old). Hopefully they last as long as advsertised. Like the energy savings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like these lights very much I purchased these light bulbs online. When I received the packages, I couldn't wait to replace my old bulbs with these new ones. The package is very easy to open. The design is very nice. The lights emit very little heat. You can touch the bulbs with your bare hand after they have been on for hours. When I turn the dimmer to the lowest level, they still give off some light, unlike my CFL kind. Overall, I like these bulbs very much. I will definitely purchase more to replace the rest of CFL bulbs in my house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LED is bright and Dimmer works! These CREE LED blubs are bright, it is hard to tell the difference from the flood lights I was using.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer BEWARE I did very much research for the best LED bulb only to be completely DISAPPOINTED with the results. In an effort to "save" on our lighting costs I replaced all of our can lights and regular lamp bulbs with nothing but CREE brand. It took a few months to complete since each bulb was about $20 each (44 bulbs) -- it is now 14 months later and I have "lost"12 bulbs. That's a 72% success rate. My old $1 incandescent lasted longer than these TEN YEAR bulbs. These bulbs were the best and the closest we could find that look like the old incandescent bulbs and this is why we went with CREE. They are much cheaper in price now, but still not worth it. STAY AWAY from CREE. These bulbs are NO GOOD. I only wish I had waited until this year with many better choices now. It really should not take too long to have them all replaced at the rate that these are going bad,
