DO these bulbs dim in big defined steps (like many "dimmable" LED bulbs) or are they "smoothly dimmable" like an incandescent bulb? I don't like when a dimmable bulbs *starts* at about 35% strength and only has two or three stops along the way to full brightness.
Asked by: David
They are smoothly dimmable. We use ours to both illuminate some pictures and also as dim "mood Lighting." I am partial. I try to buy only Cree products.

Cree will refund or replace if you send to them. That's about the same cost as buying a new bulb.

What Dimmer switch works with Creek 65W

Asked by: DF
apparently none that HD sells. I've tried three of them, including a model that Cree lists as compatible. But results in obnoxious buzzing sound from bulbs.

I've spent three days and countless hours trying to get these to work with a dimmer and not buzz. Contrary to product claims these buzz like crazy. I've tried three different models of dimmer switches, including those listed on the Cree website as fully compatible with no buzz. None work with the bulbs. Complete garbage and waste of my time. I also blame home depot for this problem as they do not make any effort to ensure that the LED bulbs and dimmer switches that they sell are even compatible with one another. What a frustrating waste of time, especially when Cree tells you that it does not buzz and what model of dimmer switch to use and that information is just wrong.

I purchased a 3 pack of these bulbs and the 1st one has gone out after less than a year. I was in recessed lighting in out den so it gets a good bit of use but it's a pretty long way from the 10-20 years they claim.

Purchased these updated bulbs to replace several 1st-generation Cree 65W bulbs that, despite their 10-year warrantee, began to flicker and fail in Year 2. I may have gotten a bad batch. Or, being an early adopter, perhaps I purchased the bulbs before the technology was fully developed. Regardless, I would have given these a much higher rating if it weren't for my bad experience with the original bulbs. Cree is very good at replacing bulbs you return to them under warrantee, but it's a hassle (and a little costly) to box 'em up and send them in. Still, the color is great, the savings in electricity is notable, and Home Depot's price is right. If these perform as they should you'll be very happy indeed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't even last 25 minutes. My Cree lights didn't last 22.5 years. They didn't last 22.5 months. They didn't even last 22. 5 minutes. One didn't work when I got it. The other would flicker on and off. Returning.

Purchased the Cree LED's as replacements for the old CFL's hoping they would last a lot longer. I was wrong about that. I have already replaced every single one of them within a year. Very disappointed since I was under the impression that they would last much longer than the CFL's. Only good thing about them is they don't put out heat like the CFL's.

Very nice light output, I compared it side by side with a Phillips LED and the color on the cree was more accurate and vibrant. I put a variety of different colored throw pillows under the two bulbs and the Cree was much more real to life especially with white / cream colors. I would give 5 stars if the Cree would get warmer as it dimmed. I have all my lights on dimmers and love the warm glow, Cree's just get less bright but color temperature does not change. Ultimately went with Phillips that had a better dimming technology.

It's a light bulb, and it did what a dimmable light bulb is supposed to do. Note: This bulb has a smooth surface. This is for a high ceiling application, requiring the use of the "suction cup" attachment on the pole we use for changing otherwise unreachable light bulbs. Because the bulbs are recessed, other means did not work. This is important because some LED's have a textured surface which can make installing by hand the only option if they are recessed.
