OP here. I ended up purchasing the 100 watt dimmable bulbs and the Lutron Casetta Wireless Pico Wireless system. I. LOVE. IT!!! Pico let me plug a dimmer into the wall and then plug my lamps into it. I put the sticking the remote to the wall (it is designed to look like the rocker switch of a standard wall switch) in a location where there was no switch and so much more convenient.

This set-up was expensive, but the lighting is warm and inviting. So worth it! I'm sure the 75 watt dimmable bulbs would work well with this dimmer. Read Less

This bulb is dimmed from an external dimmer switch (on wall,, etc.). Cree does make a "smart" bulb that can be dimmed by remote; however, I have not used this bulb at this time and do not how it compares to this bulb in question.

Answer:
No....there is a new version coming out soon that will allow enclosed spaces. They already have it for 60W Equivalent. There is no fire danger from using them in enclosed spaces, but they will have a shorter life as the LED Drivers will fail from the build up of heat.

Yes the wattage of most A19 bulbs are less than 15 watts as long as they will fit in the fixture without toughing the other surfaces in the light you will be more than fine. Am sure you will get years of enjoyment out of the LED lightbulbs

I am buying a small table lamp with a 60 W fixture - which I assume means incandescent. If I wanted to use a brighter LED - ex 75 equivalent or even 100 - would I be creating a hazard?

LED bulbs are rated by the Watts they use and by the lumens they output. What is confusing is that they are often also advertised as being equivalent in light output to a specific wattage incandescent (old school) lightbulb. So the 60 W equivalent LED doesn't use 60 W. Instead it probably uses 13-14 W and generates maybe 800 lumens, much like an old 60 W incandescent bulb would. This should all be listed Read More

Instead it probably uses 13-14 W and generates maybe 800 lumens, much like an old 60 W incandescent bulb would. This should all be listed on the LED bulb packaging. The trick is that a 13 W LED generates way less heat and uses way less current then 60 W, so it is almost surely safe in a table lamp rated for a 60 W incandescent. The only real exception to this is with completely enclosed fixtures, which can slowly build up enough heat to damage LED bulbs that aren't designed for that application. I doubt this is a problem with your table lamp. Read Less

Answer:
No. The LED bulbs pull a fraction of what an incandescent bulb does. Usually less than 15 watts, so even though the light output (which is measured in lumens) is equal to or grater than the incandescent bulb, it uses much less actual wattage.

You can use any LED bulb you want, there would be no heat problem or safety problem. the 100 watt A19 LED lamp is 14.5 watts and that is far from the 60 watt rating of the fixture. You will get the enjoyment of not having to change bulbs for about 20 years.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lighting is good, reliability not so good I bought 4 Soft White 75 Watt Replacement bulbs approx 18 months ago. 2 have already stopped working. The quality of light they give off is great, however, if all are this unreliable, the cost cannot be justified especially since they are rated at 25,000 hours. The bulbs are used less than 2 hours per day. August 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bulbs good for 3-6 months then start failing and/or lose brightness Have 10 dead right now (see pic I have 52 of these, count the packages if you don't believe me, and definitely a 70% or more failure rate over the past year). Not a month goes by that more don't die, and all home depot will do is replace like for like (and then the news ones eventually go out). Very disappointed as these were labeled as a 10 year bulb! It is simply too labor intensive to keep changing them and then having to drive to Home Depot for an exchange. Wish Home Depot would let me switch, I spent 52*$15.97+tax for these and have my receipts. The ones that don't die lose about 40% of their brightness after 6 months too. May 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed after 16 months - calling Cree This bulb is probably no longer available, but one of them failed after 16 months of 2-3 hours per day usage. I'll call Cree tomorrow and see if they will replace it. It's also very heavy, since it has a heat sink around the base, but on the plus side, the bulb itself isn't over-sized like some LEDs. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by * I've had three fo these. Put 2 to work 1 falied. Put one more to work another failed. down to 1, with no place I want to put it. Will return the dead one and the undead one and give up on this CREE bulb. September 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent light bulb Bright light, Low electricity and heat. Expecting very long life September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great lighting choice The light given off from this bulb is far superior to incandescent or CFL. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A good LED 75w equivalent replacement I've been converting my home to LED for two years now and I've bought 6 of these Cree Bulbs. They emit a nice even soft white light and work well in open ceiling enclosures. I've also used Philips LEDs and Sylvania LEDs. The Philips (60 watt eq) seem to work well, but I've had multiple issues with my Sylvania LEDs. The Crees are superior in quality to anything else I've tried. June 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dead This LED bulb lasted less than 3 years. Should have lasted at least 10 years. July 17, 2016
