Customer Questions & Answers

Could it be use to hold a crankshaft pulley on a car

To hold the crankshaft pulley as you remove the bolt
Asked by: L34o6
I wouldn't try it , because the teeth on the handle which normally grip into a pipe would screw up your pulley , which in turn could wear out your fan belt at the worst possible moment You would be better off trying a cloth strap wrench . Or you could take a pipe wrench open it up just wide enough to put the movable jaw into the opening in the front of the pulley so it looks like you are gripping a pipe , but in reality you would be gripping the pulley and if you use a long enough pipe wrench so it touches the ground , that should hold the crank from turning so you could remove the bolt. The jaws of the wrench would facing toward the back of the engine You also could try using a 6 point socket and a long breaker bar and give it a quick and hard jerk which may loosen the bolt . Good Luck.

Will this item fit a 7" diameter item to be removed

I am trying to remove my pre-filter houseing and it appears to be frozen.
Asked by: radrhino
Radrhino, this wrench has a 23 inch chain, but the maximum diameter of the pipe it will work on is a 6 inch pipe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JUST WHAT I NEEDED Removing and replacing a pipe in a TIGHT space was the reason for my choice to buy this tool. Couldn't get on the pipe with a pipe wrench , so I bought this chain wrench, which should do the job very nicely. Well constructed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have tool. I used the chain wrench tool to hold the harmonic balancer pulley on a pick-up truck engine. Also, used the chain wrench to hold the new pulley while tightening it to 105 ft/lbs with a torque wrench. Tried the rubber strap wrench, actually two of them at once but they did not work. Also, Home Depot had the best price as I checked other sources which were higher in price.
