Product Overview

These hollow wall anchors, or molly bolts, are medium duty fasteners used primarily in drywall. Once the body of the anchor is installed fully, the mating screw can be removed and items can be changed without disrupting the anchor. Hollow wall anchors with pointed ends can pierce drywall using just a hammer whereas ones with blunt ends require a pre-drilled hole. Standard screwdriver is required for installation. Zinc plating offers some corrosion resistance.

Answer:
Hi Bluejeans36,
These anchors are too long to mount your mirror. A shorter version will work or a new product called Wing Its' will also work.

I am just about to buy some more of these because they were so great when I fixed a new pantry shelf. There is no need to drill a big ugly hole though I did make a small pilot hole. Like it says on the packet just hammer them in and I used a pair of pliers to guide them through straight, that is not too important as you are in a cavity. The ones I used were not long enough so I screwed in the screw to crunch up the back of the anchor a bit so that when I had to put up the shelf support the back end of the anchor was within reach of the point of the screw and I could tighten from there.

On the packet side the instructions say you use a hammer. I have done this with a very small pilot hole of 1/16 just to make it easier. Hence the yellow plastic at the tip to help with the penetration of the assembly. Much easier to use than the chunky hollow all ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More Reliable than Plastic These are a little expensive, but they're great. I use a 1/4" bit, but the size of the hole isn't so critical because you actually have metal tabs that come out and lock against the back of the wall. When you use plastic anchors, it is just a friction fit, so the hole has to be perfect - and even then, they don't work half the time. These have advantages over toggle bolts as well. A toggle bolt can attach somethign to a wall, but if you just want a screw sticking out so you can hang something on it, a toggle bolt won't do that. Also, with this product, you don't have to drill an over-sized hole and you can take the screw out without the back falling inside the wall. Check out my video to see them in action.
