The carriage bolt features a smooth, rounded head for appearance, safety and security. The square shank under the head pulls into the material as nuts are tightened, this prevents the bolt from turning. Common applications for this bolt include deck building, fence construction and outdoor furniture.

To ask a stupid question, but if I need to bolt 8" of wood, will this work? Or will I need a longer bolt and cut it down? I need to attach a 2 x 6, a 4 x 4 & another 2 x 6 together....

Answer:
If you countersink the nut end 1/2 inch you'll be be able to get at least 3 threads on the nut. All you need is a 1inch speedbore bit.

Answer:
If your wood is dressed with rounded edtges like you get in the big box stores then the actual size is 1/2 inch less than the nominal size. So, a 2x4 is only 1-1/2" and 4x4 is only 3-1/2" so your instance should only be 6-1/2" total and 8 inch bolt should be long enough

Answer:
This bolt is 8 inches in length. If you are securing 8 inches of wood, you wood need a longer bolt so that you can fasten the three pieces of wood together securely.
