When the logs are short like you have indicated they should split up to 2 feet diameter if they are free of knots. I have not tried 3 ft diameter. You may have to rotate the logs after the first ram to accomplish full splitting. I've been able to take that half I get and then further split it into the sizes I want to get down to.

I have split logs close to 2 feet in diameter and about 14" long, but I had to turn the log 180 degrees to completely split it in two. It seems to do well with logs up to 15" in diameter.

Answer:
The yellow wedge shroud is stationary. It sheds any split log that may be stuck to the ram wedge as its shaft retracts into the hydraulic cylinder on the return stroke. That way you don't ever have to pry the wood off the wedge although it seldom hangs onto it.

That is the "dislodge bracket" and it is stationary. If the wedge gets stuck in a log that bracket will push on the log as the wedge retracts.

Answer:
It does not move with the wedge. The shroud is supposed to be for knocking logs off your wedge if they are stuck on them. You retract the wedge and the shroud pushes the stuck log off. Didn't need to use that feature yet.

Hello rnyachtclub72. The 160 cc 25-Ton Gas Log Splitter shroud that surrounds the splitting wedge is stationary and does not move with the wedge. It is referred to as the dislodger bracket and is designed to remove any partially split wood from the wedge. Thank you for your question.

Hello Rod. The 25-Ton 160 cc Gas Log Splitter has one cylinder. The wedge is controlled by the control handle and has 3 positions: forward (to split wood), neutral (to stop wedge), and reverse (to return wedge). The control handle will automatically go back to the neutral position when the wedge is fully lowered or retracted. Thank you for your question.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 88 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ok splitter Returned after splitting 1 chord. Slow cycle time, 19 seconds is too slow to be productive. Honda engine is great, should be a 9 or greater horsepower to drive through thick Oak or hardwoods. Easy to move and reposition by hand. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great splitter for the price I have used a variety of splitters, both factory and home made, over many years. This splitter has plenty of power and a tank of gas runs longer than I thought it would. This splitter is set up for both horizontal and vertical splitting . The horizontal position is not very convenient because the wheel gets in the way of lifting up heavy logs. I only planned to use it vertical, so this is not a problem for me. Set up took about 45 minutes and the Honda engine started first pull. So far I have split about 1 1/2 cord of oak wood with no issues. April 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Log Splitter I am very pleased with the log splitter. I have split over three cords of green white oak and some one year old white oak and pecan. A lot of the cuts were 20" diameter with knots and it split everything I put under it. There is some hesitation on the tough knots but it continues on through. The Honda engine is excellent as it cranks on the first pull every time. I thought at first the small engine may not be enough but it does great and uses very little fuel. The trailer tongue is a little heavy and the tongue stand would be better if it had a spring loaded latch instead of pin. I shopped a lot of other splitters and I think this is one of the better ones out there for the price and performance. Overall this was a good purchase for me. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Don't wait to get it Don't wait until you're 60+ years old to buy one. Save your back while you're young. Honda engine is a proven workhorse, and you can exact sweet revenge on all those knots you've had to bust thru with a maul and wedge over the years. A couple things I've found: make sure the gas cap is closed with a couple audible clicks, or the fuel tank may vacuum lock and engine will quit. And if the wife complains about getting it in the vertical position (I'm talking about the log splitter) tell her to run the ram to the full out position and it'll lift a lot easier, and you can get back to your beer. When lowering the ram should be back fully retracted. A great product. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First Cub Cadet Product -EXTREMELY impressed! Great buy. I absolutely love this log splitter. I just went through about 4 trees in one day. No problem breaking through logs with ease. Highly, highly recommend. November 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Research proved correct I researched log splitters before spending $1000+ on a machine and all sites said this one was worth the money. It is true. This is an amazing machine! Sturdy and a workhorse. Starts easily EVERY time and only cuts out when it runs out of gas. It is splitting knotty cherry wood like its butter. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great time saving tool to have! Added fuel to this machine and started on the 2nd pull of the cord - a real workhorse - has taken 20" diameter oak logs and has gone through them like butter. March 9, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great splitter, but getting it home was a nightmare I bought this splitter online for my husband as a xmas present. I had it delivered to my closest Home Depot location. When I ordered it, it never said it would be in pieces and I would have to put it together. I asked a friend to meet me there because he had a truck and could haul it home for me. When we arrived they came out with a fork-lift and the splitter was inside a crate and they never offered to assemble it for me. When we got it home it was turned the wrong way and the wheels faced the fenders, so we had to figure out a way to lift this 900 lb splitter to get it turned the right way and walk it down the ramps. It took us over 3 hours and our backs really felt it. Since we got it off the truck and put it together, it has run very smooth. Starts right away and has split some heavy timber. Happy with the product, not happy with the delivery process. January 19, 2016
