When the logs are short like you have indicated they should split up to 2 feet diameter if they are free of knots. I have not tried 3 ft diameter. You may have to rotate the logs after the first ram to accomplish full splitting. I've been able to take that half I get and then further split it into the sizes I want to get down to.

I have split logs close to 2 feet in diameter and about 14" long, but I had to turn the log 180 degrees to completely split it in two. It seems to do well with logs up to 15" in diameter.

Answer:
The yellow wedge shroud is stationary. It sheds any split log that may be stuck to the ram wedge as its shaft retracts into the hydraulic cylinder on the return stroke. That way you don't ever have to pry the wood off the wedge although it seldom hangs onto it.

That is the "dislodge bracket" and it is stationary. If the wedge gets stuck in a log that bracket will push on the log as the wedge retracts.

It does not move with the wedge. The shroud is supposed to be for knocking logs off your wedge if they are stuck on them. You retract the wedge and the shroud pushes the stuck log off. Didn't need to use that feature yet.

Hello rnyachtclub72. The 160 cc 25-Ton Gas Log Splitter shroud that surrounds the splitting wedge is stationary and does not move with the wedge. It is referred to as the dislodger bracket and is designed to remove any partially split wood from the wedge. Thank you for your question.

The 25 ton unit comes with wood cradle arms that catch the split wood when you are splitting logs horizontally. I have found them to work well. In the vertical splitting position the cradle arms are also vertical and therefore not functional and split wood just falls to the ground.

Answer:
Mine did not. As shown in the main picture of the item, there are two pieces on each side of the slide area that help support your logs. They each have two holes in them and it looks like their should be something that could attach to them...like a cradle. I don't like the way it is now with just the two pieces as the wood falls off of them onto the plastic fenders. They'll just break over time.

25-Ton 160 cc Honda Powered Gas Log Splitter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 119.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100% Satisfied My husband is 71 yrs. old. Has been struggling with a home made 12 ton splitter for the past 20 years. It finally kicked the bucket. I just bought him this 25 ton Cub Cadet. He was hopeful, but skeptical. He got it together with little problem, gassed it up, It started on the first pull. He sat on a lawn chair to do the splitting, while I fed him the wood. After the first 3 gnarly, knotty pieces split like a knife thru warm butter, he got a grin on his face that never left. I could see him mouth "Unbelievable!" "Fantastic!" We split our whole stack in no time. When we were done for the day, he bent over and kissed his new splitter! Cant give a better recommendation than that!

It was the least expensive splitter available with 25 ton, filled with hydraulic fluid, a Honda motor and free shipping. I've split about three cord of seasoned pine without issue. Motor starts with a light pull, first time every time. The ram splits through 25-30" rounds like butter. It is everything that was advertised and more. Truly a great purchase. Shipping to the store was great. The splitter arrived three days early.

It is advertised as being shipped from the factory filled with hydraulic fluid and ready to go. The startup section of the owners manual says to cycle the ram 12 times and then check, and add fluid, because now the whole system is primed. It also says not to mix different brands of fluid. I need to add a quart or 2 and I can only find the hydraulic fluid I need in 5 gallon quantities. Cub Cadet customer service pretty much told me to disregard the owners manual and just mix different brands. They "assured" me this would not void my warranty yet the customer service rep wouldnt give me his full name. very disappointed by what is supposed to be a reputable brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't wait to get it Don't wait until you're 60+ years old to buy one. Save your back while you're young. Honda engine is a proven workhorse, and you can exact sweet revenge on all those knots you've had to bust thru with a maul and wedge over the years. A couple things I've found: make sure the gas cap is closed with a couple audible clicks, or the fuel tank may vacuum lock and engine will quit. And if the wife complains about getting it in the vertical position (I'm talking about the log splitter) tell her to run the ram to the full out position and it'll lift a lot easier, and you can get back to your beer. When lowering the ram should be back fully retracted. A great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice upgrade from my electric splitter I would have given 5 stars but unhappy with tires on splitter. I had hoped to be able to pull behind my truck, but tires are only rated for 45 mph. Alot of money to spend, and cant really transport it on highway. The splitter itself is wonderful! Very easy to start and cuts through 20" cherry with ease! Assembly was easy also. Have split almost 2 cords in just over a week already.

It has performed very well and has not found a piece of wood that it can not split. Every once in awhile it will make a funny noise, but it goes away within a few minutes. A tank of gas has been lasting between 45 minutes and an hour, so fuel economy is not a problem. I am very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Log Splitter I've been using this splitter for two days and, so far, it works great. It goes through fresh oak with no problem. The engine starts very easily and runs all day. The only negative thing that I can say so far is that the gas tank is small, so you have to keep a gas can nearby. Whether or not it holds up for the long term remains to be seen.
