Purchased in the fall of 2015. Due to the mild winter there has only been two snow falls, both being wet and heavy. My 528SWE did a great job, even on the 2' deep rock had drift the town plow deposited at the end of the driveway.
My drive is a couple hundred feet long and 50' wide at the road. The 528SWE did a much better job than my old snowthrower.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by deeppockets Hate this waste of money. Luckily it has a 3 year warranty because you're gonna need it. The motor is strong and reliable however the rest of the thrower is not. I truly enjoy my annual trips taking this thrower in for repairs and now that I pay for the repairs my enjoyment is difficult to contain. I would encourage people NOT to buy a cub unless they have a background in snowblower repair.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bob42 seems to be a quality machine
We have not had snow yet, so I cant give a good review of the snow blower yet. What I can say is that is seem to be a good quality machine, the only thing I have an issue with is that it seems to hard to get it shifted into reverse 2.I do wish I noticed this before purchase was made, but will see how it goes.

I finally got a chance to use my Cub Cadet and I'm disappointed with the power, or lack of power, from this 277cc engine.
I ended up going with Cub Cadet over Ariens because I liked that this 28 inch came with a bigger engine.
First off, the F1 speed gear is a great walking speed but the snow would throw only like 2 feet away. Now when I moved this over to speed 2 it would move faster than I would like it to but the throwing distance improved.
I don't understand why the speed of the blower should have to be integrated with the augers ability to throw at a further distance. I wish I could increase the power to the augers at the F1 speed instead of moving at a faster speed by going to 2.
Can someone at Cub Cadet explain why I can't throw the snow farther at a lower walking speed?

This snowblower is hard to maneuver in small amounts of snow and nearly impossible in drifts. The levers for auger and gas are cocked at a 90 degree angle which is too great for small to medium sized hands. A 45 degree angle would be better. The machine engages with the slightest touch and takes off before control can be gained of the handle grips. The remote chute control is clumsy and difficult to engage with one hand. The blower doesn't clean smoothly.

I'm posting here primarily because a previous poster incorrectly stated there is no shave plate with this unit.
See the specs alone. He didn't recognize it because it's painted the same color as the housing, but there most definitely is a shave plate. See below.

The power, snow-throwing capacity and mobility are good. The single hand chute control is problematic. It simply has too much play and requires more torque, thus is not effortless as advertised, and will strip easily. Also, the power steering trigger on the right side does not work reliably and operates only half the time. I was able to buy it for $200 off list price.Test it and be critical with your retailer before you take the plunge. Also, make sure you have your own service guy and do not buy the warranty. It does the job for now however.

This unit lacks a shave plate, a protective bar along the bottom of the housing. Though present on the 3X models and on [other brand] competitors (as well as my single-stage [other brand] that this 528 was meant to replace), it is absent on the 2X528SWE. This means that every time you use the unit you will be banging, denting, and scratching the housing rather than a replaceable part. I am concerned this will lead to premature rusting of the base of the housing. Yes, you can reduce, but not eliminate this by raising the skids, but then you are leaving a quarter to half inch layer of snow on the driveway. I am not particularly interested in the gadgetry and turning features of the 2X528SWE, I would rather have the basic protective shave plate, either hard plastic or hard rubber. I will be returning the unit to the store.
