Mulch blades vs bagging blades, there is a difference. Answer:
regular blades with work kinda---mulching blades are designed to lift after the first cut and then cut again with the inner part of the blade---its kinda rocket science, but they do work better.....

Answer:
Mulching blades are designed to more finely cut/recut the clippings so that they disappear into the lawn. If you use discharge blades or blades designed for catching the grass, you may have more "clumps" of grass and or clippings laying on top of the cut grass when you finished mowing.

Answer:
Hello Pepa. The mulch plug was designed to work with the mulching blades. Without the blades, the grass will not mulch properly. The blades are specially designed to keep the grass under the deck longer to allow mulching. Use of the plug only will not have the same effect. Thank you for your question.

Answer:
Yes, I find that it mulches well, even cutting off three to four inches of growth - much better than my John Deere L130, with 48" deck/mulch kit does. I am quite satisfied with the kit. See my review of how to correctly and easily install the kit on the Home Depot website.

for the price ,this kit is worth it . but you have to do a small modification. I have one and the first time i used it the bungee broke and the plug would not stay on.so i cut the bungee off and drilled a hole on the front and back through the the plug and the deck. I installed two bolts with wing nuts . the nuts on the outside. been working great.

Yes it works great but the side shoot cover needs to be screwed down permanently at the bottom of it or it will keep blowing off. Blades are an exact fit.

On line you have 2 different mulch kits for a Cub Cadet 42" One model # 19A30006100 for $59.97 and model # 19A70002000 for $ 89.00. The cheaper one seems for the newer models?? Is it an improvement over the older model mulching kit for your 42" LTX 1040. All the reviews says the plug won't stay on and blows off the mower?????

Answer:
Hello Too Confused. The reason for the differences in the mulch plugs is due to an issue with different types of mowing decks. The LTX1040 from 2009 was a timed deck. We designed the mulch plug for kit number 19A70002000 to work with that deck. The newer versions of the LTX1040 uses a staggered design of deck which was designed differently. Thank you for your question.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 61 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works For Me I bought this mulch kit for the discharge cover not for the mulching blades, even though some day I might put them on. (The mulching works pretty well with the normal blades, even though it would probably be better with the mulching blades on.) I have areas in my lawn where the discharging of the grass out the chute goes in places I don't want it to, like gardens and shrubs. By using the mulch cover, this solves that problem nicely. I don't use it on 90% of my lawn, because I like the distribution of the grass using the chute. The mulching cover goes on fairly easily, with the exception of hooking the rubber strap over the pin. It is quite a stretch, but holds it firmly once it is on. Time will tell how long the rubber strap will last! I am glad I bought it; it solves my problem! April 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poorly designed, installed, delivered No problem with mower other than mulch kit poorly designed. Mulch plug either improperly installed or damaged/disturbed during delivery. First time in reverse mulch plug pulled under mower deck and destroyed. Home Depot contacted issued me a $50 gift cert. to cover cost of new mulch plug. It will not install because discharge chute cover also damaged. April 19, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed in product The cover for the discharge did not fit with the discharge chute in place. Had to remove chute and make brackets and use bungee cord to hold in place. Not very happy with this product. March 29, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not very good fit Decided to purchase the mulch kit as I have had them on my other mowers. I read the other posts about not fitting correctly and blowing grass past the guard thinking that maybe it was due to improper installation. After installing and trying it out, i find the other posts are correct. Disappointing to say the least. One would think The manufacturer would design a shield that would seal after building a great mower. What a failure for the design department. December 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great + Plug Tip This mulch kit works awesome. We have almost 2 acres of heavily leafy area and this is so much easier than raking! Mow just like usual and it chops up the leaves and makes them biodegrade much more quickly than leaving them whole. Plus it's great fertilizer for your lawn! Plug Tip: Like other reviewers have said, the plug likely wont stay on. Spend a few bucks and get some zip ties. I used 5 zip ties to hold the plug on by drilling some small holes in the plastic plug (see image). So far so good. A few broke, just check and replace before mowing if you need to. I really doubt the plug would stay on without the zip ties. Avoid problems and use the ties or something similar. Other than needing to make the plug modification and check your zip ties, this mulching kit is awesome! November 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It's a mulch kit I attached the mulching kit plug with the addition of 2 zip-ties(shown in photo) and have not had it fall off. I read about others that have it fall off and just decided to address the situation from the get go. To change the standard blades with the mulching blades does require a good size breaker bar or ratchet since the mount bolts are torqued to 70 to 90 ft-lbs. I only cut using the mulch kit, at full throttle and with the blade height adjuster in the 4th position. It leaves behind no grass clumps or piles. November 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mulch kit The kit worked perfect and it is the best way for a healthy lawn. November 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good job The plug was tough for me to hook-up, but that is more to my age than design. The mulch kit worked well on mulching my leaves. October 20, 2015
