This mulch kit works awesome. We have almost 2 acres of heavily leafy area and this is so much easier than raking! Mow just like usual and it chops up the leaves and makes them biodegrade much more quickly than leaving them whole. Plus it's great fertilizer for your lawn!
Plug Tip: Like other reviewers have said, the plug likely wont stay on. Spend a few bucks and get some zip ties. I used 5 zip ties to hold the plug on by drilling some small holes in the plastic plug (see image). So far so good. A few broke, just check and replace before mowing if you need to. I really doubt the plug would stay on without the zip ties. Avoid problems and use the ties or something similar.
Other than needing to make the plug modification and check your zip ties, this mulching kit is awesome!

I attached the mulching kit plug with the addition of 2 zip-ties(shown in photo) and have not had it fall off. I read about others that have it fall off and just decided to address the situation from the get go.
To change the standard blades with the mulching blades does require a good size breaker bar or ratchet since the mount bolts are torqued to 70 to 90 ft-lbs. I only cut using the mulch kit, at full throttle and with the blade height adjuster in the 4th position. It leaves behind no grass clumps or piles.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simcik Works very well! Easy to install! Same as 19A30006OEM
This is the same as the 19A30006OEM kit by MTD and fits many, many more mowers than Cub Cadets. I installed this on my Troy-Bilt Bronco, for instance. The only difference is the packaging, which is branded as Cub Cadet only, where as the other MTD kit has numerous brands on it.
The kit works well. Grass is indeed mulched much finer, and thatch build up is greatly minimized. Not to mention the added benefit of being able to "edge" with either side of the deck now.
The blades are nothing special, so if you have good original style blades already, just keep these as a spare and don't bother to remove your current ones when doing the install.
The plug is extremely simple to install. The rubber strap which secures the plug on the bottom takes a bit of effort to extend over the supplied fitting, but that's a good thing. The fitting should face downward, so that the strap is extended fully and has tension on it at all times, keeping the plug secure. The plug will hold the shield up/open, so there's no need to remove it. Installing the small fitting is the single most time consuming thing about installing the plug. Once that fitting is on the deck, you can either install or remove the plug in a few seconds should you need to.
The only reason I rated this as less than 5 stars is because of the price. Not only are the kits a bit overpriced to begin with, but this kit in particular, which is identical to the 19A30006OEM kit, is marked up simply because it's branded as Cub Cadet. Why pay more for the name on the side of the box you're going to throw away anyway? Had the other major home improvement store had the regular MTD kit in stock, I would have bought it instead...

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stephen19 Does everything it should
The cover snaps into place under the discharge chute rod......and at the bottom of the deck.....tight fit, no problems.
The blade changeover is simple.......if you have an impact gun run by an air compressor,(which I have). I tried first with a breaker bar just to see.....umm, no way. Plus, if you have an impact, deck removal is not required.
Only thing I'm worried about is the quality of these blades.....I put one cut on the original blades (RZT 42 L Model), and when I inspected them after removal, I could not believe my eyes when I saw little nicks in the blade. I have a regular yard as well.......no sticks, stones, etc.

This mulching kit WILL fit the Cub Cadet RZT-L 42 in. 22 HP V-Twin Dual Hydrostatic Zero-Turn Riding Mower (model year 2011 or later), and it WILL function very nicely, as designed - if installed correctly. There will then be no gaps between the mower deck and the mulch plug for the mulched grass to fly through, and the mulch plug WILL NOT come loose/fall off or be sucked into the blades.
Initially, I could not install the mulch plug - per the mulch kit Installation Manual directions - as I was attempting to install it whilst the mower deck was on the mower, with the deck level set at its HIGHEST cutting position. Experimenting, here's how I initially - successfully and very easily installed the mulch plug:
1. Uninstall the two gauge wheels on the mower deck.
2. Lower the mower deck to the LOWEST cutting position.
3. Lift the discharge chute to the vertical position; don't be afraid to bend the top of the chute back somewhat.
4. Fit the tabs on the upper edge of the mulch plug inside the discharge chute slots.
5. Use the backside of your fist to tap the mulch plug tabs fully into the discharge chute slots.
6. Tap the clips on the bottom of the mulch cover into the bottom of the mower deck.
7. Make sure the attaching pin on the mower deck is facing DOWNWARD.
8. If need be, use a pair of pliers to stretch the strap of the top of the pin.
9. Reinstall the two gauge wheels on the mower deck appropriate to your selected mower deck cutting height.
I believe that my initiall unsuccessful attempt to install the mulch plug was simply having the mower deck set at the highest cutting position. Therefore, the "fender" on the mower prevented me from bending the top of the discharge chute back to the most vertical position so that I could easily tap the mulch plug tabs into the discharge chute slots.
After using the mower for the first time, I reasoned that it did not make sense to have to uninstall/reinstall the gauge wheels in order to install/uninstall/reinstall the mulch plug - should one want to discharge the grass clippings - rather than mulch them or vice versa. You DO NOT need to.
If you lower the deck to the lowest cutting position, even with the gauge wheels set at the lowest setting, you can easily install/uninstall/reinstall the mulch plug. Therefore, No. 1 and No. 9 above are unnecessary.

I installed this kit on my mower this weekend. I used my impact gun to take the blades off, very easily. The plug fits nicely in the deck, I did not use anything additional to secure it. I mowed my lawn after the Installation, and the mower did a beautiful job.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by southridge good for grass-not so much for leaves
I would recommend this product-kinda-sorta....unless you put the deck all the way down, leaves,(dry and dead leaves that is,) will come out all over the place with the plug in place--of course, then you'll end up scalping the yard...works very well on live grass-as in the summer time grass...get a bagger for leaves. As for the reviews on the plug falling out and such--the one I bought 11/14 works fine. I just snap it in place, I don't even have to use rubber strap provided to hold it in--maybe its a different design. Thats my 2 cents worth from a veteran grass mower...
