Customer Questions & Answers

My son in law and I share n 1142' he wants to mulch by just adding a plug , will this work and if so why add blades

Asked by: Anonymous
Mulch blades vs bagging blades, there is a difference. Bagging are meant to lift the grass to the discharge chute while mulching blades are designed to cut the grass more than once so it is smaller and unnoticeable on the grass surface. Mulching blades often have a curve on them. You will have better mulching results with a mulching blade. Look at your local shop, they are typically marked bagging or mulching.

should I buy the kit?

Asked by: Anonymous
It is a Safety Hazard, opens up and cr...p flies every where. My wife took a rock to the face while checking out the New Mower. If you have pebbles and rocks buy a different mower with a steel Guard, I cannot believe they made this out of Plastic with no way to anchor the bottom.

Which mulching kit fits Cub Cadet RZT-S 42 in zero turn with steering wheel?

Asked by: roadranger
This kit will not work for 2016 RZT-S mowers. You're better off calling cub cadet directly and placing an order through them.

on line you have 2 different mulch kits for a Cub Cadet 42"

On line you have 2 different mulch kits for a Cub Cadet 42" One model # 19A30006100 for $59.97 and model # 19A70002000 for $ 89.00. The cheaper one seems for the newer models?? Is it an improvement over the older model mulching kit for your 42" LTX 1040. All the reviews says the plug won't stay on and blows off the mower?????

one is for the ZTR's and the other is for the 42" lawn tractor. I just bought one for my RZT-L 42"--11/14-snapped it in place and mowed for an hour with no problems---maybe new design?

I could have purchased just the mulching blades and blocked off the lower bagging chute, and saved $20.00. The block off chute does NOT hold in place. You must continually reset it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great + Plug Tip This mulch kit works awesome. We have almost 2 acres of heavily leafy area and this is so much easier than raking! Mow just like usual and it chops up the leaves and makes them biodegrade much more quickly than leaving them whole. Plus it's great fertilizer for your lawn! Plug Tip: Like other reviewers have said, the plug likely wont stay on. Spend a few bucks and get some zip ties. I used 5 zip ties to hold the plug on by drilling some small holes in the plastic plug (see image). So far so good. A few broke, just check and replace before mowing if you need to. I really doubt the plug would stay on without the zip ties. Avoid problems and use the ties or something similar. Other than needing to make the plug modification and check your zip ties, this mulching kit is awesome!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a mulch kit I attached the mulching kit plug with the addition of 2 zip-ties(shown in photo) and have not had it fall off. I read about others that have it fall off and just decided to address the situation from the get go. To change the standard blades with the mulching blades does require a good size breaker bar or ratchet since the mount bolts are torqued to 70 to 90 ft-lbs. I only cut using the mulch kit, at full throttle and with the blade height adjuster in the 4th position. It leaves behind no grass clumps or piles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blades are good, discharge blocker, not so much The plastic discharge piece easily pops off every time I mow. Plastic ties are necessary to hold it in place. Not a very good design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works For Me I bought this mulch kit for the discharge cover not for the mulching blades, even though some day I might put them on. (The mulching works pretty well with the normal blades, even though it would probably be better with the mulching blades on.) I have areas in my lawn where the discharging of the grass out the chute goes in places I don't want it to, like gardens and shrubs. By using the mulch cover, this solves that problem nicely. I don't use it on 90% of my lawn, because I like the distribution of the grass using the chute. The mulching cover goes on fairly easily, with the exception of hooking the rubber strap over the pin. It is quite a stretch, but holds it firmly once it is on. Time will tell how long the rubber strap will last! I am glad I bought it; it solves my problem!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything it should The cover snaps into place under the discharge chute rod......and at the bottom of the deck.....tight fit, no problems. The blade changeover is simple.......if you have an impact gun run by an air compressor,(which I have). I tried first with a breaker bar just to see.....umm, no way. Plus, if you have an impact, deck removal is not required. Only thing I'm worried about is the quality of these blades.....I put one cut on the original blades (RZT 42 L Model), and when I inspected them after removal, I could not believe my eyes when I saw little nicks in the blade. I have a regular yard as well.......no sticks, stones, etc.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 42" mulch kit i ordered a mulch kit and received the wrong plug, i also had to purchase a breakaway bar and torque wrench to take off the old blades and put on the new ones, had i known i would have ordered the mower with the mulch installed the mtd people were very helpful and took care of the problem i just had to wait for the proper plug to be sent. the mower works great and now leves the lawn very nice instead of cuttings all over the yard

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very good fit Decided to purchase the mulch kit as I have had them on my other mowers. I read the other posts about not fitting correctly and blowing grass past the guard thinking that maybe it was due to improper installation. After installing and trying it out, i find the other posts are correct. Disappointing to say the least. One would think The manufacturer would design a shield that would seal after building a great mower. What a failure for the design department.
