OK, I researched this belt failure issue. If you look at your deck the tensioner spring is under tension even with the belt off. The problem is related to the theory that this deck was designed for a 5/8" belt and ships with a 1/2" belt. Look at the spring mount. It will be in the forward most of three holes. That is the 5/8" tension! Move the bolt to the middle position! Problem solved! There is still enough tension on the belt to work properly. Also check to be sure the deck does not hit the PTO. That is adjusted by moving the nut on the front rod and you want about 1/2" of clearance with the deck in the fully raised position
you should now have a happier belt and idler pulleys.

Well first off 50.00 for a belt is way to expensive. Secondly replacing this belt is a pain in the you know what. Lasted one cutting.

This was the second belt from Cub Cadet that I put on this year for a total of 2 and 1/2 mows. Both belts broke with a pretty clean break. I am now trying a belt from another source. I have replaced an idler pully and 3 belts in the little over a year I have owned the Cub Cadet. They sent me the pulley and the first belt under warranty. The last belt cost over $60 with tax. Once a year I could accept but every mowing is to expensive and to much work.

Overall, I think these belts are durable if the mower's trim deck idle pulleys are not warped. You will throw belt after belt if those idle pulleys are rubbing anything or do not move freely. They need replacement if they are warped.

After realizing that the deck belt installation was wrong in the manual, I routed the new belt on under the tensioner bracket and it's worked fine so far. The belt that came on it broke after 4 months of use. I suspect the belt that came on the new mower was installed incorrectly per the manual......thus causing it to rub across the tensioner bracket and wearing out quickly. Wasn't too happy about having to buy another one so quickly!!!!
