I am interested in this type of mower. How ever, I was searching to see if this mower has power steering?
Asked by: Goldie
No it doesn't provide power steering, but the steering is fairly easy as long as the mowers moving.

I just bought this mower and have used it twice so far, but I was wondering how much vibration do you folks get when you engage the blade? I get some vibration and I was wondering if this is normal. Thanks for any feedback!
Asked by: iluv2bike
Some vibration? Before your next mowing, refer to all safety precautions in the manual, then check the security of the blade and deck. A slight vibration is normal for any mower when the blades are (load) engaged. If you feel that the vibration is in excess after your inspection, then contact your local distributor for assistance or the help number in the manual.

I changed the oil on my mower, using the tool they provided, made a big mess. Anyone got a successful way to accomplish an oil change without oil all over?
Asked by: heater
Install a oil change valve, less than $15.00 on line. The manual shows one installed but is not there - only a plug.

CC30H 30 in. 382cc Gas OHV Single Cylinder Engine Hydrostatic Drive Rear Engine Riding Mower is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 137.

My mower was delivered on Friday, May 26, and, after getting it out of the crate (more on that later) and spending a week reading the TWO manuals backwards and forwards, I finally tried to do my first mow on Saturday, June 2. It started right up but every time I tried to push the PTO lever forward to engage the blades, the engine cut off. Then I tried driving it without the blades engaged; it went a few feet but then cut off again. Eventually it started backfiring when the engine started. This went on for more than an hour as I consulted the manuals over and over. I finally gave up and spent another half hour or so online, consulting the Home Depot Q&As and the Cub Cadet FAQs before finally doing a live chat with Cub Cadet. The rep told me I needed to call tech support. I was standing in my driveway, waiting for tech support to answer, when my neighbor came walking up my driveway. He knew immediately what the problem was. He flipped the seat up and showed me the little gray button that’s part of the mower’s safety system. It shuts the mower off if someone gets off the mower while it’s still running. David said I didn’t weigh enough to keep the seat pressing on that button. Well, I’m only 4’10” but I don’t think the issue was my weight; it was that my legs are too short to reach the pedals without shifting forward a little, which took pressure off that button. Also, the PTO lever is very stiff and I had to really lean forward into that to get it to engage. That also lifted me off the seat a little and disconnected the button It was such a simple fix but there’s nothing online anywhere that addresses it and the Cub Cadet rep couldn’t help me. My neighbor, who happens to be an engineer, went home and came back with a big plastic bottle cap and some duct tape, which he attached to the seat bottom where it connected to the safety button. That closed the gap enough so the connection remained in place even if I shifted forward a little. Also, once I was aware of the problem, I tried to sit back on the seat as much as possible. I think one of the manuals says something about the mower shutting off if the rider gets off while it’s running, but it doesn’t say exactly why/how that works. 2. One reviewer said getting the mower out of the crate was a “magic act” and I would agree with that. Some reviewers said the mower arrived in a wooden crate. I asked Home Depot customer service about that and the rep confirmed that, but that isn’t quite correct. The mower arrived in a wooden crate INSIDE a cardboard box; the freight company driver also left the pallet behind on which the box/crate rested. A friend suggested that I cut around the bottom of the cardboard box and lift it off, which was a great idea. The top and sides of the wooden crate were also easy to remove. But then, after taking the parking brake off and engaging the transmission bypass rod, it was still impossible to push or pull the mower off the crate base because all four wheels were wedged between two smaller pieces of wood to keep the mower in place (see pic). The good news is that it was certainly packed very securely for transport but it was really hard for me to get it off that base. I finally mustered all my strength and was able to get it onto the side rails so I could push it off onto the garage floor. I also found someone who wanted the pallet and the crate pieces so I didn’t have to dispose of all that stuff. I cut up the cardboard box and still need to ferry that to the dump. 3. Regarding DRIVING in reverse, several buyers, including me, asked about this online. Cub Cadet replied that all you have to do is push the reverse pedal but that’s not correct. You have to disengage the blades, i.e., pull the PTO lever BACK, before you can drive in reverse. 4. Regarding MOWING in reverse, some reviewers were unhappy because they thought they couldn’t mow in reverse with this mower. Well, you can but you need to follow the instructions to put the mower into “Reverse Caution Mode.” It’s easy enough to do but it seemed like a pain to do that every time you wanted to mow in reverse. One reviewer suggested starting it in the “Normal Mowing” mode and then just switching it to the “Reverse Caution Mode” right away and leaving it like that. I put it into that mode the first time I wanted to mow in reverse and also just left it that way; it seemed to work fine. But that said, the manual says, “Mowing in reverse is not recommended.” On the mower itself, it says, “WARNING: MOWING IN REVERSE IS NOT RECOMMENDED.” Well, if it’s not recommended, why is this mower manufactured with that capability? 5. Regarding the BATTERY, some reviewers and Home Depot said all you have to do is add gas and go! But you do also have to connect the battery cables and this is set forth in the manual, although I was missing the page on which the instructions began and had to consult the online manual. The battery was really hard to access, even with my small hands, and I posted a question online about how to access the battery. Cub Cadet replied by telling me where the battery was located. In the online manual, it did look as though the engine cover was lifted up to expose the battery but apparently that’s not possible. When I finally got the mower going, it worked fine, although you don’t have the kind of control you have with a walk-behind mower. I may have to go back out with my walk-behind and clean up the edges that I couldn’t reach with the rider. Also, both the PTO and cutting height levers were really stiff and difficlut to engage. I also tried to adjust the cutting height from 3 down to 2 while I was mowing and a loud rattle began. I hope that’s gone when I mow again. And the two paper manuals that came with my mower were inconsistent with the online manual and did not contain a clear detailed diagram of each part. Also, the online manual showed the oil cap on the left; on my mower it’s on the right. After one mow, I’m generally pretty happy with how this mower works. It mulches much better than my self-propelled Troy-Bilt did and it did cut my mowing time in half, from about an hour and a half to about 45 minutes. It also didn’t take me two day to recover from mowing the lawn. But I’d bought a small riding mower because I thought it would be a good fit for me and I can see riding it will be a bit of a struggle. I’m actually thinking about adding blocks to the pedals so I can reach them!

It fits through standard gates even with the bagger attachment. Has some drawbacks, the metal twists and creeks while cutting, you can feel it even though the seat is comfortable and well padded. Horse power is a little on the low side but keep the blade sharp and you shouldn't have any problems. Slow down to turn or it will scalp the grass, especially if your a 200 pounder like me. Those are the only downsides, it is reliable enough to start easily and mows at an acceptable pace. I would buy the product again.

Connecting the battery was the only stumbling block. Once connected, gas added, the engine started right up. There was a minor learning curve on using the Cub Cadet, but one mastered, it has been great.

Had a large staple from the crate in the right rear which was a bit of pain to get fixed but it has been so that is no longer an issue. Started right up from the beginning and runs good used it twice now and it is coming up on it's 5 hr. oil change. I am going to add a length of pipe to the drain port to make draining the oil easier and less messy. The seat kill switch is a bit of pain but a little ingenuity and a well placed square of plexiglass can solve that. The hydro drive is handy much better than fixed gears for precise ground speed and also easy backups, the option of the key position that allows backing up with the blade engaged is also handy. It cuts well and gives a better looking cut than my 60 inch Kubota. I use it in front of the house where I used to used my 21 inch walk behind. The one negative I have found is my foot tends to slide off the end of the fwd pedal of the hydro drive so if right/outboard end of the pedal was raised like a 1/2 an inch to prevent that that would be an improvement, I will have to see what I can come up with to address this MINOR "problem"

Everything looks great and will be easy to operate. I had a question about the oil drain plug as the 2 Operator Manuals included are confusing. One shows a "drain plug" (which I do not have), the other one shows a "oil drain sleeve" (which I do have). The instructions say to "Snap the small end of oil drain sleeve onto the space provided around the oil drain plug". NOT! This thing won't snap in for anything. I called Cub Cadet "tech support" and was put on hold for 30 minutes. I hung up and tried again. Same thing, 30 minutes on hold, no "tech". I gave up. I still have no idea what tool to use to remove the drain plug or why the drain sleeve will not "snap" in.
