Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brett Powerful, easy to use lawnmower.. Love it!
I had a very old beaten up lawnmower for about 10 years, and it was time to get a new one. I came across this Cub Cadet GT1054 and decided to give it a try. The lawnmower is strong, fast, easy to use, and makes the yards I cut look awesome with its rollers. I cut the grass in half the time it used to take me with my old mower. I strongly recommend this, and time will tell how it holds up. I have had this lawnmower for about a month and I have ZERO complaints. I'm glad I made this purchase, and there was free shipping to my home, so I didn't even have to get it at the store.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SMGNBOK Exactly what I was looking for
Overall this is the best of the mowers offered by HD in this line of mowers. The deck is exactly like a deck I have used on another mower since 1996 which this mower is replacing. It has a full roller across the length of the rear edge of the deck giving a very nice level cut. Plenty of power from the kolher and it runs and starts well. The only concern I have is the single belt driving 3 blades direct to the PTO. Time will tell if it will last.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rlht My Cub Cadet
The Cub Cadet had the features that I was looking for, a 54" mowing deck, easy pedals for driving and
braking. Steering is very easy, it turns on a time. Easy access to raising and mowing deck.
Easy access to the filter.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Gardener69 This product is a poor example of a Garden Tractor
I purchased the GT1054 because it was billed as a Garden Tractor. I was disappointed to learn that there is absolutely no feature of this product that would distinguish it as a 'Garden Tractor'. It will not accept garden implements and it does not have a limited slip or locking differential. This has resulted (on a number of occasions) in me becoming 'stuck' when one rear tire goes into a shallow divot or while trying to go up a hill. Pulling a garden trailer up a hill with any sort of load is out of the question. Features that it has that I do not like at all include: 1) the blades stop turning when you back up (unless you go through an additional step with the ignition key position), 2) if you lean in your seat to one side (or the other) the blades stop turning, 3) if you hit a bump with any force, the blades stop turning, and 4) there is no way to shut off the headlights when the ignition switch is in the 'on' position, or the engine is running. Features that I like are that it does cut well and has garden hose attachment points on the deck for cleaning. Unfortunately, these desirable features could have been had on a Lawn Tractor without paying the premium of a Garden Tractor.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bobby Warranty worthless
Forget about the warranty on the things that break most often. When I called my repair man told me what was wrong with my mower before I had a chance to tell him. I have owned several riding movers over the years but have yet to break a spindle. My Cub Cadet spindle broke and the distributor's repair shop would not honor the warranty. They simply said that these spindles do not break for no reason and claimed I must have hit something with the blade. The blade was not bent. The repair shop refused to contact the manufacturer claiming that this was their policy, and told me I could call them myself to get authroization for the repair under warranty. I have since learned that these spindles are made of cast aluminum, like the old pot metal, and are brittle with no strenth like steel. I would not buy another one and recommend that you look for a product with strenth where it counts. What good is a warranty if all the repair shop has to say is that you broke it? What happened to defects in materials and workmanship?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Abraxaas So far so good.
I bought the GT 1054 to replace my 1968 Allis Chalmers B110 that has been too finicky of late to be reliable. After researching and reading as many reviews as I could I opted for this model over the JD D170 as I wanted something a bit more rugged.
I rated ease of use as good only because the litigation mandated seat cut-off switch for the engine is nothing short of irritating. I am on the lighter side (145 lbs) and if I raise one cheek even slightly the motor cuts out. I managed a fix for this without completely removing the switch. I pulled the switch out, drilled a 1/32" hole through the body of the switch while holding down the button so that the hole goes through the switch body and the button. I then inserted a straightened out paper clip through the body and button to hold the switch in the closed position permanently, and then reinstalled the switch. Problem solved.
So far the tractor is working well and was easy to set up. It was not easy getting it out of the crate or off the truck. NOTE TO HOME DEPOT CUSTOMERS- make sure you call the shipping company prior ro delivery and make sure they deliver using a lift gate.
One complaint that I and others have is that the guaging wheels on the mower deck cut into the lawn when making tight turns. Cub Cadet should make these wheels swivel on the larger 54" deck to avoid this issue.
