What would cause the front tires to wear completely bald after 33 hours of use on 1040 model?

We have a 1/3 acre yard that we mow once a week March-October (give or take). The left front tire is now completely bald and the front right is very close but the back tires look like new.

They are properly inflated and we use a on turf only except to turn around in the driveway while mowing.

Thoughts?

Answer:
The answer was that both of the threaded rods on either side of the front suspension should have the same number of threads showing. They did not so was experiencing a "toe-in" situation similar to what happens with cars and trucks. After I adjusted the right side to match the left and purchased new tires all has been good for the past 2 seasons, no wear to the new tires at all.

Answer:
You have a rough surface your turning on. That is the only thing that could wear the tires so fast.

Hello WLB1963, Bad load distribution can cause the front drive tires to wear at twice the rate of the rears. Also running over rocks and sharp objects can wear the tires on the lawn tractor. We would suggest that you have a service center take a look at your machine. Thank you for your question.

Answer:
You must turn the key to center position first. Then press the triangle button till the light turns red. Then you may mow in reverse. If the light doesn't come on there might be a switch problem. Try a couple times first.

Answer:
Hi Don, Yes it can... Cub Cadet added a nice feature up where the key is. You have to push a button & turn the key to the left & that locks it from shutting off the blades while in reverse. Hope that helps you, Royce

It may be as something as simple as that. Home Depot will be able to recommend someone who can give you some specific direction on this. Good luck. Read Less

It only took a couple of days to deliver the Cub Cadet. They usually have them in stock and then it's just getting it delivered. I live about 20 miles from the store. It was very quick.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 52 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good solid machine I've had the lawn tractor since the beginning of summer when our lawn care person kept blowing us off. Right off the bat I was happy with the way it performed. Runs well, no hiccups, enough power to tackle the acrea na a half of lawn on our property. So far the only above and beyond maintenance has been installing the mulcher kit, and replacing a bent mulcher blade after hitting a higher than expected tree root hidden in some high grass. All in all so far it's run without a hitch. For those thinking of getting one, you can't beat the quality for the price. I look forward to it serving the household for many a year to come. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this tractor Love this tractor. Turns easy almost zero turn. Cuts the grass so well neighbors are jealous. They all have back firing John Deeres. I have had it 2 1/2 years. Still love it 5 stars. no problems. Cuts in reverse. plenty of HP. May 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great mower I just picked this up a couple weeks ago at the Depot, and I love it. I had a LT1000 craftsman that would just rip the yard up and leave grass humps all over the yard. I went over it with the new Cub, and it cut the grass nice and even. It also to the old grass clippings and spread them nicely where I could not even see them in the yard. It has a nice solid build and rides smooth. I have read a few reviews here that said they had belts break often on this mower, but you have to adjust the deck wheels to your lawn before you cut, or the deck will swing and that is what causes the belts to break. I really do love this mower so far, but I will update after a few more cuts. September 1, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Most disappointing mower ever I purchased a LTX 1040 about 3 years ago and I have about 75 hours on it. I've had to replace the PTO belt 4 times and the drive belt once. I been plagued with oil leaks and the vibration has caused parts to fall off and the bolts to completely back out of the exhaust. twice The bolts holding on the front of the hood have come off twice and and I finally replaced them with bolts and nuts drilling thru the hood. Wouldn't start once and the electrical lead to the bottom of the carb had broken off. The quality of this mower is horrible. I purchased Cub Cadet based on brand name. Boy was I fooled, May 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I liked this. It had a great turning radius and cut well. March 9, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Totally dissapointed in quality and service. Had this mower just over 3 years, only 81 hours on it. Right at the end of warranty had to replace a spindle, it came back from the "authorized service dealer" with the blades out of time. (having a deck with a timing belt a totally bad design) Now, with 81 hrs (a lot of which is just the motor running), the whole deck shakes and makes so much noise the whole neighborhood can hear it. Based on this particular model year, I would NEVER recommend a Cub Cadet to anyone. Hoprfully they have improved the deck design, but that doesn't help my situation. June 18, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by poor design The product does handle very well and mows pretty good however the lights remain on at all times with no light switch and if you rinse off the mower after you finish mowing the headlights are so poorly designed they feel with water and it will shoot your headlight bulbs when you start the engine. The safety switch built into the seat is a constant problem. You must arrange yourself perfectly to get the lawnmower to run correctly. Even if and position correctly as you go along if you hit a bump the engine will start cutting out. This is unbelievable annoying. October 1, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by most expensive paperweight I ever bought Bought this tractor 5 years ago when I got a new house because my ex loved the old Cub as much as I did. Unfortunately I had no idea how much Cub's quality has declined. Nothing but problems from the start. Deck leveling bracket broke after only 1 year then was no longer available to replace. Unit burned up batteries, belts and blade (the 3 Bs) faster that I could buy them. Non-stop fixes and adjustments to keep it running. Mower deck had to have all the guide wheels re-welded. And finally2 days ago, with only 210 hours use on it, the steering gears went bye-bye. I can't even bring up the parts list on the website to replace them. I'm not putting another penny into it and it's by the road waiting for the scrap metal people. I went out and bought a new Craftsman. At least they are not made by MTD. To sum it up in one word - JUNK. I will never buy another Cub product. September 15, 2014
