Answer:
you can disconnect the reverse shut off switches for the blade engagement under the seat area---they are hard to get to but it is possible, and then it works in reverse just fine...the safety feature is for people who mow their yard with kids and pets running all over the place at the same time.....

Answer:
The short answer is not exactly. You can back up and keep cutting if you don't pull back on both lap bars at once. It is really for squaring up the mower without shutting down the blades. True reverse mowing not possible.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use Have owned for several years easy to maintain cuts your mowing time to half of what you spend on a regular mower. Easy to operate and very comfortable. July 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fast Attractive Yellow Mower I purchased my mower on memorial day. Got 2 tell ya, I love the Yellow Club "Strongsville!". I've gone from Dread, to Happy to Sad! I dreaded cutting the lawn before I got my yellow mower, but now I'm HAPPY!!, Then I go sad when I have to put it up. I've gone from 90 mins to cut the lawn to 26 mins. Heck I wish I had more lawn so I can get my 90 minutes back!! I can't wait until 7 days past so i can get out it again :-) My only con is the dealer I purchased it from. I see the listed price on this site is the same sale price my dealer sold it to me for. I forgive them because my L 42 was worth every dime spent!! July 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really can't say enough about this machine. The first couple of times on my new mower, granted I was a little apprehensive, not about the machine, but me, thought it might be more than I could handle, its bold and powerful engine to its quick and agile handling, but once you get a few times into this machine it's quite fun to have that power and performance working with you. I would most assuredly recommend this type of mower to anybody and have already! October 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does a good job; real time-saver Due to severe R/A reasons, I traded my 2010 ZTR tractor version for a 2015 RZT-42. The levers are much easier to steer with than the conventional wheel and they give the mower more versatility. It takes me far less time to the lawn and the end result is a satisfying, even-cut appearance. However, avoid fast radius turns, otherwise scuff marks will result. I especially like the 8 position deck lever, which gives a broader selection of cutting heights. I'm also pleased with the aggressive 22 horse Kohler engine that always delivers, even in deeper grass. My biggest disappointment is that the blades will stop, even with the slightest backup motion. They have to be reset with the PTO switch, rather than having a forward motion restart, or a push button alternative. This is a real pain when rough-trimming around trees and I'm afraid that the PTO switch will become short-lived. I understand this may be done for safety reasons, but why aren't Cub's commercial line mowers equipped with the same feature? My other disappointment is that none of the RZT's are equipped with lights, for occasional dusk to immediate-dark mowing. Overlooking my dissatisfactions, I'll still highly recommend this mower to anyone who is looking for a quality time-saving mowing experience. October 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My second Cub Zero Turn I purchased a Z-Force 44 in 2004 and finally wore it out!! It has now been replaced by the RZT L 42. WOW!!! What an upgrade!!! I mow approx. 3 + acres around a farmhouse, barn, outbuildings, trees, and a pond. I was mowing straight areas with my tractor with a 3ph 60" finishing mower and the balance with my Z-Force 44...........3-1/2 hours. I now mow everything with my RZT L 42.........2-1/2 hours. Powerful, fast, comfortable.......what a pleasure!!!! Thank you CubCadet!!! September 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I am a heavy equipment operator and let me tell you I am so impressed with the rzt-l42 zero turn I have bad knee and I don't have worry any more about pian this machine runs great and I get the job done October 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An excellent mower for my one acre yard. Had a tractor style mower and I would never go back to one. The zero turn cuts mowing time in half and does a better job. Its fast and now makes cutting the lawn a fun thing to do and no longer a chore. No problem so far, just like my cub cadet snow blower, both great products. I also love the features of no pedals or shifting of gears, just the movements of the bars, what a great job on making it so easy to use. Looking forward to cutting the grass this afternoon! June 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very fast mower We have owned a 1550 cub tractor for about 6 years now and had great service from it so we decided to go with a ZTR. We have been super inpressed with it. It is fast mowing and easy to operate. We still use our tractor for the hiller part and pulling trailers but the ZTR does most of the mowing now. July 27, 2015
