Let me start by saying, this is one fine lawn mower! I'd been looking at all the mowers out there, but could not decide which one to buy, at 62 years old, and in poor health, I decided I could no longer deal with a push mower, with a bad leg! On my birthday, my wife decided, for me, I liked the zero turns, for getting close to her flower beds, but I wasn't too keen on handling the lap bars, So she bought me the RZT-S 42" After using it, for a few weeks, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, IT! I like the way it handles tight corners, It cuts amazing, it's very fast, I can now, haul and fetch dirt and mulch in a small garden wagon for her flowers, and the bagger unit, works great. Thanks , Cub Cadet for making One Great Machine.

I am generally satisfied with this mower. I got the 42 incher so I can put it in the back of my truck. It fits well between the wheel wells. The cut is nice, power is very good, and the turning is excellent. it isn't QUITE as tight turning as a stick machine, but it's close, and the tradeoff is worth it because of how much better it holds on hills. I have a few minor issues: First, I always use the feature that allows you to keep blades running in reverse. Big help, that. BUT, if you stop the blades inadvertently (by tripping the seat switch, for example) then you have turn the motor off and restart it to get it back into that mode. Stinks. Second: It's a gas guzzler. I know, I know. You can't have it both ways. power vs. economy. It's not a big deal, really, just kind of surprises me how much it slurps.
The battery on my unit lasted five mowings before it died. . The dealer replaced under warranty with no argument. But still, that's pretty lousy quality. Not Cub Cadet's fault, I guess. But maybe they should a different battery into their units.
And after a couple of uses on my treed property, lots of thorns, all four wheels were flat. Can't say I didn't see that coming, and some Green Slime sealant solved that problem.
Overall, though, this baby gets it done. My property is hilly, semi-pasture, and it blasts through just about any grass. it can be 2 feet high and it hardly works to get through it. Straight up and down some fairly steep hills -- no sweat. It's just a basic zero turn mower that does the job. So...I'm happy.

This review is comparing to a lap bar zero turn. This mower is not a true zero turn. It will not get as close to tight objects as a lap bar. You must go a couple feet past end of mower to do the "zero" turn, or you will have an uncut area. If you go to a unmowed area, turn on blades, and "zero turn", there is a 16-18 inch uncut area! Otherwise, this mower has an excellent cut with good scattering of clippings. It mows hills great. However, I have more trimming and weed eating to do compared to old mower. Might do just as well to save $1200 and get a tight turn lawn tractor. Also a big gas hog.

Took over a year to finally buy the RTZ. I researched the web, read other reviews, went to the big box (HD) store and independent dealers and asked questions. The independent dealer I purchased from let me ride around on the mower -- something I couldn't do at HD. I had the mulch kit installed. Haven't had a problem with the blades stopping when going in reverse -- got used to it. Fun to mow with this machine. I used to borrow my neighbor's lawn tractor and find the RZT has much better traction and much more control on hills. It is loud because the engine is not covered and is right behind the seat so I use ear protection headphones and listen to music while I mow. I have about 20 hours on my RZT now and it runs perfectly. I'd buy it again and recommend it.

I have the 42" ZRT-S. It has the two blade system. There is about 1/2-3/4 " space between the two blades. Well you can imagine what this does. Yep, it leaves a neat little strip of uncut grass hanging around right in the middle of your cut. This requires you, yes you to double your passes. Might as well just by a 21" mower because that's exact! yep what it is.

I have a residential yard with some pretty steep hills that I used to cut with a gt2542 that was a great tractor but always felt top heavy and at least half the time I was nervous. I sold it for half what I paid 8 years later which is impressive and says a lot for cubs. I decided that the rzt s that says for hilly terrain had to be safer with the lower center of gravity? Boy was I right it is so impressive I can turn around in the middle of the hill and go back up without any fear. The 22 hp motor is crazy powerful. I wrote this to give back to the cub engineers for giving me peace of mind. If your wanting something for residential hills I doubt you could do better thanks cub cadet I for one am a very happy customer!

This is really a great product. Just bought mine in May '12 and can't believe the time it saves me. I look forward to cutting grass. It's great on Westen Pennsylvania hills, provides a clean cut with nice lines and runs like a champ. My yard looks spectacular after a fresh cut.
The steering wheel on a zero turn is brilliant. I've never thought I could own a riding lawn mower with so much maneuverability and ease of use.
I really like the deck wash system and the tractor is just really comfortable to drive. I'd recommend this product to anyone - and already have to a few neighbors.
