Answer:
There's really no need to have the store assemble it. It comes almost entirely assembled in the box. If you can mow your lawn, you should be able to do the minimal assembly it requires.

Answer:
Some stores will have one available for pickup that is already assembled. I'm not sure if you will be buying online to take in to assemble. assembly is very easy on this product. essentially you just have to extend the handlebar and but tighten a couple of bolts, no tools required.

I'm sure the store will assemble this mower if you ask, but the assembly is very easy. all you need to do is unfold the handle and tighten the wing nuts. you will also need to wrap the bag around the frame. other than that the unit is fully assembled.

Answer:
Hello - Due to the fact that the front wheels on the Cub Cadet SC500Z are on casters, they each have to be adjusted manually. Thank you for your question.

Am a contractor who for years bypasses a Lowes store - 3 miles from my house - to travel 26 miles to HD in new hartford. Was getting a 10% discount on all purchases to keep me coming there - approx 9 - 14K spent every year. Now they tell me can't do anymore. What can you do about this? And what can you do about this mower?

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great mower I've had it almost 2 years. I did two things to the mower, I put a Zerk fitting on each caster swivel, and replaced the in-tank fuel filter with an after-market clear plastic filter. Other than that, it's a great mower. May 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not that good of a mower, at all. I bought this mower based on other reviews and on previous purchases, this is not the Cub Cadet of years past. In short, find a different mower, maybe even a different brand. One of the top complaints about this mower that I had found was how quickly the bag fills up. I do not see how that can be a problem with how much cut grass blows out from around where the bag mounts to the mower. At first I thought that I had done something wrong, nope. The bag is mounted correctly to the metal frame and is seated correctly to the mower, it just does not seat/seal well, at all. This problem causes cut grass/clipping to be blown everywhere. Once you remove the bag to empty it the amount of cut grass/clippings that are collected everywhere on the mower is nuts, this thing is a mess and then that mess ends up on the ground needing to be swept up, thanks for the extra work Cub Cadet. The pins on the bag frame that hold the bag in place on the mower are metal resting on plastic, how many cycles of use is that part going to last? I can see that failing very quickly. As the plastic wears and the pins move farther away from the mower, the bag will start to creep away from its mounting point as well, this in turn will make a bad problem even worse. Very poor design on the bag indeed, but this seems to be an industry standard, way to follow and not lead. The front casters are O.K., but they do not swivel/turn as easily as they would lead you to believe. I am sure that they will work very well on perfectly flat ground, but any kind of an angle or incline makes it difficult to turn, and I do mean "any" kind of angle or incline. As for the height adjustment, easy enough to do and get done but why not have corresponding numbers on both sides of the wheel mount? Also here is another cheap part warning, the wing nuts for the carriage bolts to adjust the front caster wheels are plastic, another cheap part that will fail quickly. The adjustment for the rear wheels is simple and easy and works well with one drawback/problem that would be simple to fix: There is no corresponding/relating position number to the front wheels. Would it have been asking too much to put a position number on the stops for the rear wheels that matches to the same position on the front wheels? The MySpeed Drive System offers two distinct speeds, off and run. The "smooth engagement and superior speed variability" that Cub Cadet states and talks about is one of those "not so much" kind of things. You concentrate so hard on keeping the speed where you want it that it becomes a huge detriment and uncomfortable to use. The faster you go with the MySpeed Drive System is directly related to the amount of grass clippings that are blown around and don't make it into the bag. There needs to be a way to limit the maximum speed, more so than just not pushing as hard on the handle. The MySpeed Drive System working together with the caster wheels that don't swivel or turn as well as they should, if you instinctively push down on the handle to turn the mower, it speeds up the MySpeed Drive System and pulls away from you. Definitely a point where front-wheel drive is better than rear-wheel drive. I wish that the MySpeed Drive System was an option that I could choose to use only when I wanted to use it, but it is an all or nothing kind of system. The actual handle/control for the MySpeed Drive System also feels very cheap and flimsy, as if you were to put too much pressure on it, it might snap or break off. On the plus side and a positive, the engine does start up on the first pull. Unfortunately that is about the only positive or good thing that I can say about this mower so far. Try as I might, I can not find any horsepower rating for the engine anywhere. The dealer that I had bought it from kept telling me that it was rated at 159cc, I gave up after about 20 minutes of trying to explain to them that 159cc is the displacement of the engine, not a horsepower rating. Saying that a 350 cubic inch V-8 engine is rated and more than 5700 cubic centimeters does nothing to tell you what the horsepower rating is. Could the reason for no mention of the horsepower rating be that fact that it is not that high? As I had said at the start, this is not the Cub Cadet of years past, not by a long shot. Too much plastic and poor design, not enough durability, power and good/smart design. Not enough focus on quality and customer satisfaction and too much focus on the bottom line and making a product in the cheapest possible way. This is a cheap lawn mower, this is just not reflected by the price. June 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall good mower. I like the self propelled action. I have one concern and that is that it has a lot of plastic parts that I fear will break easy. January 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This mower is awesome!! Easy to put together. Easy to pull start. I'm 5'1" and 130 lbs and I zoomed around my yard with this mower with no problems at all. I love it. I had to sign up to be notified when they were available. It took a few months before one became available so I had to pay someone to mow in the meantime. But I'm so glad I waited for it. I even bought one for my mother for Christmas because it is so great. The mulch bag is easy to use and I can put my clippings around my flower beds. I roll right over my gravel driveway to reach different parts of the lawn and there's no problems going over gravel and back onto the grass. The wheels on the front make this mower so easy to use. ALL PUSH MOWERS should have these types of wheels!! I mow my quarter-acre yard in about half an hour. When we had a larger property, we had a cub cadet riding mower that lasted over 15 years so I know we'll get years of use out of this one. I love it. December 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by THIS IS THE SECOND PURCHASE OF THIS MODEL FOR ME AND THERE ARE SOME DEFINITE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SELF PROPELLED LEVER ASSEMBLY AND BAGGING SYSTEM THAT I HAVE FOUND TO BE MUCH MORE "USER FRIENDLY" THAT THE MOWER PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED THREE OR FOUR SEASONS AGO. August 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great maneuverability Great performance so far after one summer's use. Starts on 1or 2 pulls, maneuverability is excellent. Cuts well and the variable speed self-propelled feature makes it easy to cut on hilly terrain or on flat ground. September 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Maneuver We purchased this mower to replace a basic self propelled unit. The front caster wheel configuration was very appealing to us for the ease of maneuvering. The variable speed control was an unexpected bonus. Unit starts like a charm, maneuvers very easily and has plenty of power for heavy grass or uphill movement. Very pleased with the product. August 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best ever Zero turn expedites getting the lawn mowed. Amazing what that feature alone can do. So much quicker and mower performs just like one would hope. Am buying a second one for my son. September 6, 2015
