I bought Merola Metro Mini Subway beveled white tile from you to use on my bathroom floors and shower walls. I plan to use .42 Hardie backer board 3x5 sheets as the substrate on both the walls and floors (over 3/4" plywood on floors). I wanted to use the polymer modified white VersaBond thinset from Custom Building Products. Should I use this thin-set mortar admix instead of just water?

Answer:
This product increases mortar performance when setting tile when compared to water for improved bond strength, so it is better to use this mortar admix rather than just water.

Answer:
Yes. We would recommend to mix it with our Custom Blend Thinset in place of water. And that modifies the thinset for tile over tile. For more information you can contact our technical department at (800) 282-8786.

Answer:
Hello JZ and thank you for your question.
I spoke to technical support at Custom Building Products and they told me that the Acrylic Mortar Admix is recommended for use with non-modified thin-sets or grouts.
If you are using the Polyblend® Grouts by Custom Building Products), use only water for best results.
Best wishes with your project.

Answer:
The Acrylic Mortar Admix can be mixed with non modified portland cement grout. Custom Building Products PolyBlend sanded and non sanded grouts have a powder version of the polymer in it so all they should be mixed with is water. Thank You

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Use with custom mortar thinset 50lbs gray. Created a much more solid bond than using just plain mortar. Don't be cheap, buy both parts. November 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works better than water I used this along with the 50lb bag of admix. And it worked far better than I could have hoped for. I actually mixed a sample of thin-set with just water and a sample with admix. the admix was far stronger and was not as brittle as the water mixed thin-set. Don't be cheap. buy both parts and use this in place of water. December 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great additive I am a mosaic artst and using this additive in my slurry mix really makes the grade. It makes your final project more resistant to water and let likely to damage when bumped or moved. Also seems to hold up through time and bad elements. I live in a high wind and cold climate in the winters and all I do is cover my projects with plastic tto avoid high blowing sand in spring. I would recommend it to anyone in this artistic area or anyone who does concrete sculpture as a top coat additive. March 5, 2009
