Those who are having issues with adhesion should be using both parts of this. Don't be cheap, or you'll get what you pay for. I use this product, with thinset mortar admix, I cut it with water as well, but not too much, and lay my tile. This product works very well with uneven natural slate as well as other materials. I lay directly to concrete or backer. Again, don't be cheap. You get what you pay for. So to those complaining about adhesion, it's cause they were cheap. Do it right the first time. I'm not saying this is the end all be all, but if you want a solid set, especially with uneven product, this is it. I do coat the back of the tile as well. Use a good notched trowel, be patient, you'll have a great finished product. Also, I use gray mortar with white grout, it doesn't make a big difference if your spaces are deep and you're not heaving excess mortar on floor.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by JimR Good Product with Ditra
Used to install Ditra and Porcelain Tile on concrete as per Schluter-Ditra Installation Handbook 2014. Works great! Meets ANSI A118.1 which is what the Handbook calls for (Page 13). The bag states to mix with 6 quarts of water if not using the additive (the additive actually changes the spec to ANSI A118.4). 6 quarts of water is fine for laying the tile; it is not for the Ditra. Schluter Ditra requires the unmodified thin set to be "mixed to a fairly fluid consistency, but still able to hold a notch (page 24 of Handbook)" This is important! On a humid day it will take 6 1/4 quarts of water. If you do not mix it this way, you will never be able to get it to stick to the back of the Ditra (fleece webbing).

I never write reviews but I read so much hate on this product and I agonized over whether or not to use it, I wanted to give my opinion for others in the same boat. I need unmodified thin set to install Ditra underlayment and then to set my travertine on top of it. I found 2 websites saying this was the worst unmodified thin set to use but I had no choice... this is all I had access to without special ordering something. Everything went great! In fact I've completed both a small bath floor (36 sq. ft.) and a basement floor (400 sq. ft.) with stuff and no problems at all.

I used this product to install a new porcelain floor in the bathroom. I did it myself with no experience except assisting my sister with her flooring once. The tiles adhered just fine using this thin-set mortar, which is recommended for various under-surfaces. Mines was concrete because I removed the linoleum. The new flooring is GREAT. I absolutely LOVE it.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by obe1 horrible stuff
I wouldn't purchase this product ever again. I've used many types of thinset before & thought to try this one, my project specification's required a modified mortar. It almost dries on contact with cement board + very little working time and a very bad smell along with it.
