Questions & Answers

This grout left a terrible residue and discolored my tiles! HOW do I get this off!

Asked by: leanna
I haven't used the product, but if it is latex-based, a highly basic liquid may soften it. Sodium Hydroxide (the main ingredient in "Main Line" plumbing clog remover) or trisodium phosphate are both strong bases, and solutions of these may work.

Does this grout need to be sealed?

Asked by: ChrisDiMarioo
I would seal this grout or buy a different brand. I had my bathroom remodeled and the contractor used this grout to tile my shower. Had mildew stains on the floor within two months. Contractor cleaned and reapplied the grout, swore up and down it didn't need to be sealed. Well as you can see from the picture not six months later the mildew is worse.

will this product also stick to wood?

I am installing tile next to wood, will the epoxy grout also stick to the adjoining wood floor at the marriage line?
Asked by: Suz52
Yes. I installed a granite tile countertop and used red oak as trim around counter edge. Before grouting, I stained the wood and sealed it and then masked it off with tape. I've had it installed about a month, now, and all looks well.

People seem to dislike this grout but they would have a better experience if they were prepared. Buy 2-3 of the large orange HD buckets and 6 tile sponges. Fill your buckets with cool water and toss 2 sponges in each bucket. Open your grout and apply a generous amount of water with a clean sponge on the a small area you plan to grout, not just the gaps but the entire tile surface. If you used enough water then the Fusion Pro will spread nicely, use too little and it will be like spreading corn flakes and it will fall of off your float. spread the grout on the gaps of two 12x12 tiles max and then use a clean sponge to wipe the excess (lightly) and then toss that sponge in a bucket and use a clean one to repeat, then do the same with a third. Wring our the sponges and then repeat until you are finished, it goes faster than you might imagine. Leaves nice clean lines and cures fast.

Our tile contractor used it (he had never heard of it before) and found it very difficult to apply and had many small holes appear after it dried and had to fill them. This was the first of two bathrooms we are remodeling with tile - he asked we do not use this product for the second one. We took care of the clean up and found (we used the recommended cleaner as instructed) it VERY HARD to clean up - it took us hours of scrubbing and scraping with a plastic putty knife. Our tile layer said regular grout simply wipes off with cheese cloth. We certainly don't recommend this product!

We gladly paid the upgrade for this material since it’s guaranteed mildew/stain resistant. Doesn’t need sealing. Better color retention. We'll never know if those promises would come true, because the grout didn't last a month! DISASTER! Less than 1 month later (with a 2+ week curing while we were on vacation) it was disintegrating in our new marble pebble shower!!!!! (chipping, crumbing, cracking away) -- even some pebbles were totally loosened!!!! I had glanced at negative HD reviews but had chalked it up to inexperienced DIYers and installers….WRONG!!! It’s a disaster for wet installations….. It’s supposed to be so hard and unforgiving once dry --- But it absolutely weakened with exposure to moisture, just at the rate of once per day in a master bathroom, with full drying in between showers using an open window and ceiling vent…..DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

Completely remodeled our master bath shower using this grout. MISTAKE! Installed Carrara marble hexagon tile on shower floor and porcelain tile for the walls. FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS EXACTLY. Within a few months had an orange mold grow over all the grout on the floor, then some spots had black mildew in the grout. Bucket says mold will not grow on DRY grout,... I guess that's how they get you. Cleaned grout using specific cleaner for the marble and grout. Orange film mostly scrubbed away using non scratching scrubbers. Never could get out black mildew imbedded in grout. Now black mildew has spread, I have just scrubbed most of the orange mold away, (for the 10th time ) and now for the final time trying to get the last of the black mildew. Same has another review below with marble tile and black mildew. HAHA Joke's on me because for marble you have to use certain cleaners or else you could etch or ruin the marble and guess what removes mold/mildew, bleach!!! Bleach cleaners can ruin the marble and Majority of bathroom cleaners out there say DO NOT USE ON MARBLE. So I have found only a few I am going to try use. Then once all is cleaned we are going to regrout the entire floor. Also the grout has come out and has pitted all over. We let the grout dry for over a week before we turned water on! Also like review below bucket say 3 days of dry time while online says 7 days.

My installation is on a concrete basement shower floor, no flex, solid frame. I will admit that it was not easy grouting the stone tiles and something that does a little more self leveling would have been nice. The product looks good and seem to be holding up. I used a grey color. Been in for almost a year Not sure why you could not use this on top of concrete? The only issue I could see is if it resuspends into solution or crumbles and this product shud not do either. ..... or it shud be sold at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for DIY grouting! I am a 28 year old female who used this to grout my bathroom tile floor. I have to say I was very worried as I have never used grout before, but this was just too easy! Some places did leave indentions or bubbles (could have been my fault), so i just went over it again and it looks perfect! I totally recommed this product!

I'm a contractor that has been using this product for about as long as it's been available. Most of the reviews that you will find that are negative I believe are people that were naive to the process. Prior to using this product we used 2 part epoxy grouts and other similar single component grouts for many years, so my crew was already used to the potential headaches that occur when you are not prepared for the job. It is harder to apply and rinse than standard grouts. That is a fact. So if you're going to use this be prepared to have several buckets of clean water, several sponges, and some gloves. Be prepared to have a slight mess on your hands as you work. This is construction after all..No one said it would be clean. Make sure that you're watching the set up of the grout prior to wiping. Wiping too early and with too much water can cause the lines to sag. You also do not want to wait too long otherwise it becomes harder to remove. I recommend using a sponge that has the abrasive on one side just in case it starts to set up. The biggest mistake I see newbies make with this type of product and that of epoxies is not thoroughly rinsing off the product before it's allowed to dry. If you wipe off well, it will end up with a very slight haze that WILL come off quite easily with a cheese cloth or towel. If you want easy...don't do tile in the first place.

After reading many reviews both good and bad I thought I would try this on a new bathroom floor install. I installed a marble mosaic 13 x 13 floor tile. I have installed tile many times and have always used a traditional sanded or unsanded grout. This grout is somewhat difficult to use. The instructions state to only do a small area at a time. This is a must, the grout begins to dry very quickly. I would not do more than a 2' by 2' area or less at a time. At least with mosaic tile. It is more difficult to wipe up verses a traditional grout. It takes lots of water to get it off the tile. The manufacturer suggest using as little water as possible to wipe up excess grout as the extra water could dilute the binder in the grout causing it not to work as directed. But you need a lot of water to get this grout off the tile. After about 2 weeks the grout is not as hard as a traditional cement based grout. It is hard but pushing on the grout with a screwdriver with some force you can push the blade of the driver into the grout. This may not be a problem and may even help prevent cracks however I would have thought it would harden like traditional grout. The overall floor looks good. However I would not use this product again.
