Do I need to use this thin-set if the glass tiles are on a mesh sheet?

Do I need to use this thin-set if the glass tiles are on a mesh sheet?
Asked by: flomo54
Yes this thin-set will work for tiles on a mesh sheet. The objective of using this thin-set is to give a uniform coloring behind the glass tiles. I have used this for two inch tiles on 12 x 12 sheets and the results are great.

Kitchen backsplash

I was told I should use this product for glass 12x12 sheet tile that I am using. its on a painted drywall...some say sand first and some say don't have to..or some say use mastic instead of this product...the tile isn't a clear tile..there is some light grey, taupe and off white. and for 25sq what ratio should I use
Asked by: Antonio
You might need more than the 7#'s but I used it on sheets of tile and little bits and pieces of tile too. Also long ceramic bars as borders (Had to prop the bars 'til mortar dried though). I didn't sand anything. Not the painted brick wall nor the painted drywall, Worked great.

How can I mix small amounts? ie: What is the ratio of cups of water to cups of morter ?

I need to mix up enough to set just 2.5 square feet of ti[e. How can I mix this small amount ?
Asked by: Midnightsailor
The ratio is one part water to five parts mortar mix, by volume. First put the water in the pail and add about 1/3 of the measured mortar, Mix that first as a thinner mix, then gradually blend in the remaining mortar. It will get somewhat thick, which is what you want. It will become a little difficult to mix, but a 2" knife will do it (do not need an electric drill and stirrer - it wastes so much material). It just takes a strong hand and a deliberate mixing stroke, turning over the mix frequently.

Can I use this over Tec Skill Set liquid membrane? We are doing a shower with 3x6 glass subway tiles. Many thanks!

Asked by: Cas
Yes this will work. Make sure you have a waterproofing mesh at corners and joints. Also Tec Skill Set suggests to apply at least two coats of the membrane (25 mm thick). Most waterproofing membranes will cure in 24 hrs, so check the directions for proper cure times.

Glass Tile 7 lb. White Premium Thin-Set Mortar is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Double your purchase! The coverage noted on the package is very optimistic. Buy double the amount that you calculate. Otherwise you might run out in the middle of your project... It was good to work with when using the exact amount of water specified. Don't add anything extra for good measure!

Followed the directions exactly. I mixed half the box, using a scale, and half the water amount using exact measurement. This product was very hard to apply, almost not workable. I had no choice but to add more water. Second batch, I used more water & it was much easier, but because the first batch wasn't workable, I'm not going to have enough to finish the job and will have to buy more. The first box should've been more than enough. I'm going to stick with this for this job because I hate to use two different products. But wouldn't use in any future projects.

We were using a mosaic tile, Jeffery Court 'Fall Opal', that included clear glass on a mesh back. This mortar seemed to make the mesh disappear. Bonus, it made the colored glass tiles pop in color. Highly recommend!!
