This 50 lb. MultiSet Modified Thin-Set Mortar offers a good bond for installing tile over concrete, backer board and existing ceramic tile. Can be used for tile installations on most surfaces. Made from a proprietary blend of Portland cement, inorganic aggregates, copolymers and chemicals.

Use on stained concrete floors

Is this the proper product to use on an old stained (color stained that is) concrete floor that has been highly polished, waxed, etc? House had brown stained floors for many years,, then covered with carpeting for 20 years or so, then tile and thinset. Is this the right thinset to use? Should it be used by itself of after an application of slurry?

I'm assuming you want to use this to cover the floor; which is not the purpose of thin-set mortar.
This, as well as all thin-set mortars, are used to adhere ceramic/porcelain/stone tile to a subfloor. They do not act as a coating, nor would they last for very long.

What you would need is actual cement or floor leveling compound to cover the existing floor. However, simply going over a wax and polished floor without removing it won't allow just about anything you use to properly adhere to it.
With that being said, you'd need to remove the coating(s) first to allow the cement you choose to adhere to it properly.

It's actually the trowel size you use that will determine how many square feet will cover in one bag.
The rule is the larger the tile, the larger square-notched trowel size you'd use for the tile. With your tile, since it is so large, you'd use the largest we carry, 1/2" x 1/2" in size.
