Customer Questions & Answers

How long does the Polyblend caulk need to cure? Can't find this info anywhere! Thanks.

Asked by: Jaye
I was able to put wall trim over the grout in about an hour. The width of the grout was about 3/8" and was 1/4" deep and it seemed to set up in about 1/2 hour.

apply over grout?

A recently finished shower tile project has small (less than 1/8") space in the corners where the walls meet. grout has already been applied to these corners. is it recommended to apply this product over the top of the grout to give some added protection? Will it adhere to the slick ceramic tile?
Asked by: ruby
I removed the loose grout which made adequate room for the Polyblend. The caulking gun method of installation is particularly well-suited for small areas and requires no mixing or scooping. I have also used it to add new tiles to existing tiles, and it's very easy to blend with the original grout.

Caulk vs Grout

I need to fix the cracked grout line around my bathtub which is leaking moisture to the adjecent wall outside the shower door( there is a slight bump on the wall outside of the tub which I assume is created from water collection at the dry wall underneath the paint.) I am new to home repairs and hear a lot about you should replace cracked grout line with caulk. Does sanded caulk absorb moisture at all? How to prevent moisture retention at the bottom grout line where I read somewhere water from vertical grout line may collect at the bottom if you use silicone caulk which cause it to mold easily.

Based on our kitchen use, it is not super durable and is easy to wipe-off after it has dried. I would not use it where it would easily get wet or be scrubbed weekly.

Is the finish glossy, semigloss or flat?

Asked by: Grandma
It is not as dull as the grout but very close. When installed the difference was not perceptible. It flowed well from the tube and was easy to install and tool; About like any good latex caulk.

Polyblend #183 Chateau 10.5 oz. Sanded Ceramic Tile Caulk is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 612.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from So-so Stuff Decent product. Very tacky and you have to work quickly after you lay the bead to keep from getting messy. It can be overworked to where you won't end up with a clean finish. The only other issue is that the material keeps coming out of the tube for the first 2-3 oz used which was rather irritating.

This caulk matches the grout nicely, but either it is not good for around the tub or I am doing something wrong. I have tried twice and both times it ended up as mush when it got water on it. The second time I did it, I even dried a round the tub for 4 days with a space heater in the tub before applying, then let it dry for fIve days after application. After a week of showers, it is now mushy again and coming out. I don't get it. I did also use it for places that do not get as wet and it worked fine. I guess I will try something else this time. Tired of removing and applying caulk every couple weeks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell Used this product in conjunction with the same color grout in my bathroom. I used the sanded caulk around foot of tub and up sides of tile where it abutted my wood trim. This caulk was easy to apply and the oyster gray caulk was a good color match to the complimenting sanded grout. For being two different materials I would say they matched great, not perfect but just great. Downsides at this point are that I felt it took several days to dry and the product did shrink more than I would have liked. We will see how it holds up over time, but for now I am happy with how it turned out.

I bought a tube to correct some minor install errors. It is nearly more of a grout product than a caulk product. It has a "grittiness" to it. It is thinner (more watery?) than, say, GE silicone caulk. It is not super easy to work with. It smears easily and it is easy to over-wipe. Also, it takes a long time to dry or become firm. It is not firm the next day, so if you need to touch-up, wait more like a week. It does look nice once it dries. I do not think it will be very durable, like GE silicone, as any dried overage is easy to wipe off with a wet cloth. I am concerned it will not hold up to weekly cleaning, but I had to match the installer's caulk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shrink Used the sanded caulk for 3/16 gaps between tile floor and tub base. Also used for any inside corners tile to tile. I would give it 3 stars for color matchimg to the polyblend sanded grout - was slightly darker. The main downside is that the caulk shrank more then anything ive ever seen. It almost looked as if we did not caulk aside from the color. The caulk also pulled away from the surfaces due to so mich shrinkage. Now im left with ripping it all out since custom building products is saying that you cannot apply another layer. Very disappointing.
