Customer Questions & Answers

How would you apply this product to the grout?

Asked by: Anonymous
I used a craft brush which I purchased from Art and Crafts store called Michael's. Make sure to shake the bottle well and pour some amount to a disposable plate. you could gently wipe excess amount with dry or slightly wet towel from the tile in case you apply the product to tile accidenty inside of grout area.

Will this product apply a light color over dark grout? We have a bathroom with black grout and we hate it!

Asked by: Anonymous
My grout was black too and I went to a light gray which matched the tile. It looks 100% better! The black was just awful and I was so happy to see it covered up! I think you will be too.

Future maintenance - sealing?

After applying grout renew, does it need to be sealed or reapplied regularly down the road? That is, do I need to seal the colored grout in a year or two or just clean it?
Asked by: BC
I'd have to say it needs to be sealed. After applying it I noticed that it would still come off a bit if it got wet, so I haven't yet but will likely seal pretty soon to maintain the color.

Which shade of Polyblend grout Renew is closest to cream? Its difficult to see colors on a computer. Thank you!

Asked by: barbar
Canvas would be your closest color in my opinion. Always good to do a few lines in different rooms where the lighting is different. The sunlight can make a huge difference. Just like wall paint.JW

I'm using a small paintbrush instead of a toothbrush like the directions say to. time will tell if it holds up but I've read reviews all over blogs that say it does.

I have a bathroom that had dingy grout and I was not ready to replace the existing grout and tile. I was hoping to find something fairly easy to give this tile and grout some new life until a future time when I am willing to renovate, this product hit the mark! I did do a thorough acid clean prior to applying the Renew so it had a good clean surface, I think this helped in the end result. I'll let the pictures speak tell the rest of the story

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Product That Really Works! Amazing product - just had travertine mosaic backsplash and TV surround tiled. The tile from HD is stunning but the grout was too dark/reddish. I was so disappointed. I searched the internet to see if bleach, or some other product would lighten the color. Then I found a YouTube video for this GroutRenew. I tried the product with a toothbrush as directed, and at first I thought I had ruined the stone because I couldn't stay exactly in the lines. But after completing one row, I wiped with a cloth towel and I was amazed!! The ugly dark grout was perfectly lightened to a light beige/off white color that looks perfect. Tumbled marble is very easy to work with when applying this product. Hard to believe my ten thousand dollar tile install was saved by a $14 product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best $13 I've spent I'm an artist and got paint on the tiles in my studio room in our new house without realizing the grout wasn't sealed. The dark blue paint stained grout looked horrible and I was so upset. This product covered the old dirty grout. It was easy to use, low oder and easy to match the color of the original grout color. My tiles were sealed so I just slapped it on with a paint brush and wiped off excess. Time consuming process but SO worth the result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from grout saver My floor was put in but never sealed so the grout was filthy after only a year. I knew my floor was clean but the stained grout said something else! Picked this up in snow white and I could not be happier! Any paint that got on the tile was easily removed with a blade. After I was done I sealed the grout. Happy with the result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS STUFF!! I absolutely LOVE this stuff. My tile is OLD...20 years old. The original grout color was platinum grey, but is now almost black. I've gone on hands and knees to scrub the grout only to have the dirty, black color reappear within a week or two. I want to replace my tile, however I'm not looking forward to moving furniture from each room, or the mess, or the cost! Yes this project was time consuming, but well worth the time and effort. I used an old tooth brush to apply in small sections then waited 20 minutes to allow it to dry. I then used a damp rag and my finger nail to wipe away any excess. This new look will buy me some time and allow me to concentrate on other projects. I'm sooooo happy with the results!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked even better than expected! When we laid our tile, we wanted a darker than the tile grout. We chose the Delorean gray grout. It looked dark when it was wet, but after it dried, I was disappointed to find it was almost the same color as the tile. So, I bought the Dove Gray. It was just the right color! I just applied with a toothbrush and a few old rags to wipe the excess off the tiles. The pictures show the grout before and after the grout colorant added. It didn't take long at all. It's been holding strong for 2 years now. The floor gets scrubbed every 2 weeks and I haven't noticed any fading in the grout color. This product is awesome :) I would definitely but it again if needed.

My results were the same as those you can find in pictures that are in other users' reviews. Be aware that this is not a staining (transparent) colorant. It is more like a paint, but you can certainly see the texture of the grout through I and in my case, the color variation in the different grains of sand in the grout.. I've read reviews where others have said it came off. That surprises me. Put on properly -- you must brush it in for a very thin coat and wipe it "dry" to remove all excess -- it has adhered well (granted only a week so far for me) and I don't anticipate it coming off. One this that I think is essential: you must clean your grout first. Applying it to dirty grout doesn't apply to the grout, just the dirt and grime -- and it won't stick to the grime. It also says that it must cure for 72 hours -- drys well in 24, but total cure requires 72. If the grout wasn't clean or the colorant wasn't totally cured, that could explain the problems a few have had.
