Hello, i used pre-mixed tile adhesive for a wall installation over concrete that stated it was good for tile up to 12in by 12in.

but the adhesive is taking a very long time to set, which is concerning to me. I still have about half the job to do. Should i switch to the thinset mortar that needs to be mixed instead?
Asked by: Kevin
i use once premixed and regret that decision will never use again, make sure that your grout is intact otherwise your tile will start to fall out off the wall if the area is constantly wet

I thought I saw in the store on the bag it said " Porcelain White Mortar & Grout. Can I grout with this?

Asked by: GettinErDun
i would not do that any product that is say is for two jobs is not good for 2nd use it as a glue and buy the grout that is for grout only.

Can this be used for tiling walls in a bathroom? Do I need spacers for sag?

Asked by: Njdad
My husband says yes...small tiles used in bathrooms are normally porcelain. It is the easiest to work with as well as to cutting! We always use spacers.

Customer Reviews

Porcelain Tile White 50 lb. Fortified Thinset Mortar is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Thinset! Had 422 square feet of porcelain tile to install and we used this thinset. If you follow the directions you will use six quarts of water for one bag of thinset. Instructions say to put water in first and then add thinset. I put in 5 1/2 quarts of water, then add the thinset, use my Rubi mixer to start mixing and then add in the last 1/2 quart of water. I find by adding water the way I do I have less clumps of dry Thinset. You want to mix the thinset on low speed. If you mix on high speed you can get air bubbles in the thinset which will ruin your work. I mix about 7 minutes, let the thinset sit another 7 minutes then mix between 5-8 additional minutes. I always use a 5gallon pail with a lid. When I am not using the thinset I keep it covered which I find adds to the time you have to use the product. Manufactured states it lasts two hours but with the lid on I find you can extend the time by at least 30 minutes. It works great for porcelain tile!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 50 lb porcelain tile mortar It was hard to mix and ended up a little lumpy but was easily applied. It would be nice to have smaller mixing instructions instead of using the whole bag at once.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very effective on an aged concrete base For those who do tiling using porcelain tile, which is just about anyone now, most of the thinsets work fine. However, when tiling on a surface that does not absorb water using porcelain tile can be a real pain. Normal thinsets take forever to harden, since there is nowhere for the moisture in the thinset to escape. That is where this thinset excels. It seems to be mostly glue, and when it hardens that tile is very much adhered to the surface it is on. That leads to the one problem I have found, which is that it does not act like a normal thinset. Normally, if the tile isn't level you tap on the high corner and the tile adjusts with the opposite corner rising. At least for me, when you do that with this thinset the entire tile sinks. Very important to have your bed of thinset level, or else adjust by back-buttering the tile prior to setting. The other problem is that it flows easily and is not very forgiving, and a complete mess if you have to lift a tile to add a little thinset to raise it up. As much as using a drier mixture would seem to help, I found it made it even harder to create a flat floor, and with the amount of adhesive in it, it seemed much less sticky. The compromise I came up with is to take this thinset and add it to Home Depot's marble and granite thinset (by itself will take days to harden if using porcelain on aged concrete) in about a 50/50 mixture, or a bit less on the marble and granite thinset. The granite thinset has ample sand that provides body, and the porcelain thinset has ample adhesive. Together they should be ready for light traffic the next morning, and if you want to make certain I've used a heat gun to lightly warm the tiles (I keep it 1-2 inches from the surface and slowly move it around the tile). They always are ready the next day. I've never, ever had a tile pop using this thinset. Another alternative could be to simply add fine sand to this thiset, but I have not tried it and I have no idea how it would change the working and adhesive qualities. A last comment is that this does not have the pot life of other thinsets. Due to its vast amount of adhesive it acts more like hot mud does in drywall work. Don't think you can pour some water on the top and cover the pot and come back later and be able to use it. It will be mostly hardened, and the batch I tried remixing (not a pleasant task) did not have very good drying properties, but the tiles I used it on didn't pop when finally dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I always use this, the only thin-set I use. White thin-set has no color transfer through your job. stays loose in the bucket long time, great
