Can this be applied over old grout to fill cracks, chips and gaps?

This question is from Prism #165 Delorean Gray 17 lb. Grout

The old grout job cleared too much grout between the tiles and it should really be refilled or be topped off with new grout. I would never bother to chip out the old grout, but I would consider going to the effort of applying fresh grout on top of the old if I have some chance at sucess.

Answer:
Approximately 2/3 the depth of the grout joint would have to be removed prior to applying new grout. For further assistance please contact our installation division at 800.272.8786 option 2

I just received a box of Prism grout in the color 542 Graystone (marked on box and bag) and it looks lighter than I expected and is lighter than sample color on the box and website.

Will this scratch tile? Is the finished look like other non-sanded cement grouts or like an epoxy?

I can't really tell if this is safe for shiny or glass tiles. In "specifications" it says "No" next to "Sanded," but I don't see anything in the description about whether it's safe for tile surfaces that may scratch if sanded grout is used.

I read on another website that Prism grout contains glass instead of sand. That doesn't sound good. Bits of glass rubbing around on the tile sounds like it would scratch.

Also, how is the texture when dry? We don't want the rubbery look of epoxy grout as this is a vintage style remodel.

I'm using on vintage style tiles with narrow joints; some are matte, some are satin, some are gloss, and don't want scratches or the rubbery epoxy look.

Answer:
Prism Grout does contain a light aggregate which could possibly scratch soft natural stone and glass tile. We recommend doing a mock-up or to use our Polyblend Non-Sanded Grout for best results. For further assistance please contact our installation division at 800.272.8786 option 2

Quantitiy and treatment for pool tiles

This question is from Prism #381 Bright White 17 lb. Grout
Asked by
Harpers Ferry, WV
Read all my Q&A
May 11, 2016
What kind of treatment would I need to apply after grouting tiles for the waterline of an in-ground pool? Would bright white be the closest color to a white pool plaster?

Additionally, is there any rule of thumb how much grout I'd need for about 60 sqft of mosaic tiles (see picture) with 1/4 grout line? I think it would work out to about the same amount as 60 sqft of 1.5x1.5 tiles require...

Thanks everyone!

Prism Sure Color Grout may be used in a pool application. Coverage for the Prism Sure Color Grout will vary depending on the specific dimensions of the tile in the mosaic. Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Oyster Gray Easy enough to mix, directions were simple, it does set fairly quickly so only mix one bag at at time. Color matched perfectly, mine came with two individual bags. October 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great color Grout was really eay to use and color was true , no variations even with different bags. Applies smoothly and finished product looked great May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great cement grout! A quality product from custom. Dont let it dry out too much before working with a sponge. Takes a little more finess & effort to make nice joints compared to a standard cement grout. However, the results are worth it. Color is very true & consistent. Keep all tools clean as you go, & make small batches. Easier to work with in cooler weather. December 8, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too much Good grout but I wish there were smaller options. Maybe a 1 bag instead of 2. I had to buy this huge box to use only a cup full. June 23, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good non sanded grout with even color Nice color grout to match my italian porcelain wood look tiles. February 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Prism grout This product comes in three pouches, yet the mixing instructions are for all three at once. DON'T do that! It dries fast. Mix one pouch at a time. September 3, 2014
