Customer Questions & Answers

Sanded or not, and does it need sealing

I didn't see anything on the container about this grout being sanded, but the specs here on the home depot page say it is sanded. I'm curious as generally, sanded is for 1/8" and greater, yet this says it can be used for 1/16" to 1/2". So, 1st question is it sanded, and if so then why is it OK to use on 1/16", which is the gap between my shower tiles. 2nd question does it need to be sealed? I've already purchased this (it was recommended by the Home Depot advisor in store) and was ready to grout tomorrow and while waiting read about it being sanded.

SimpleGrout is sanded but the "aggregate" in it is small enough that you can use it in small grout lines (as little as 1/16"). No you do not need to seal it.

Does this grout require a sealant coat?

Asked by: Anonymous
This does not require a sealer. However, all grout will look better longer if you use a sealer. Just make sure it is fully cured before you seal it.

Is this grout sanded or unsanded?

It doesn't specify on the container or in the description of the product whether it's sanded or unsanded. I understand sanded grout will scratch glass tiles such as a backsplash and I am looking for unsanded grout for that reason.
Asked by: DDAWG
Under features it states sanded.

is this product mold resistant, and is it ok to use on the shower walls ?

Asked by: Anonymous
Not for shower walks. This is sanded grout. You'll need to mix dry non sanded grout for walls in shower.

The premixed grout is a fantastic time saver especially for repairs and small jobs. I have not opened a bucket yet and found it dried out. But I do check the packaging and squeeze it a bit to make sure its still pliable before purchase. I have not had any color discrepancies from bucket to bucket. Try not to over buy though. The product won't last too long on the shelf. So if you need a pint by a quart not a gallon. If you need a gallon you probably shouldn't be using premixed. The packaging is a little weak. Don't stack anything with weight on top of these buckets. I have had one split on me when I made that mistake.

It spread easily and already pre-mixed which was a plus. Easy to clean up just have a rag and grout sponge handy. Spread grout with fingers, smooth with sponge and clean with rag.

I used the grout to touch up bathroom floor grout that had been covered by carpet for at least 18 years. When the carpet was removed, there were a number of chipped away grout spots on an irregular small tile pattern floor. The tiles ranged from 1" square to 2" x 1" rectangles. The grout patched them perfectly. I did prep the floor with Zep's grout cleaner before the touch up. Both products worked very well and I recommend them.

My wife & I used this with mosaic tiles made of glass and stone, both of which the product says it works on. It was ridiculously difficult to remove from the stone on the first pass...as we went. However, after we let the grout set up for the recommended 4 hours, the haze was impossible to remove from the stone sections of the mosaic and extremely difficult to remove from the glass tiles. We had to spend about an hour and a half using our fingernails to scrub the remnants of haze off of each tiny piece of glass in the mosaic. This is on only 6 square feet of backsplash. I've de-hazed full rooms in less time. We are DIYers, but we are certainly not inexperienced when it comes to tile & grout. We tiled the whole floor in our last house...2000+ square feet, plus a glass mosaic bathroom wall of approximately 100 square feet, as well as groutable vinyl flooring. We have never had this bad an experience with a grouting product. Wish we would have read the other reviews before purchasing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor grout I had a small entry way that I needed to finish before the water was turned on at my new place. Without water on site, I decided to try this premixed grout in a small 1 quart container. I've done a fair amount of tile work over the years, probably about 800 square feet, and I've always mixed my own grout for the job. This was my first experience with a premix and if this product is any indication of the quality, I will never use premix again. This stuff is over-sanded and way too dry a mix. It doesn't fill voids very well and is absolutely horrible when it comes to clean up. It sets up too fast, so you are forced to work very small areas and clean up with your sponge way too quickly. It leaves a rough, unattractive grout line. In my opinion, the people who give this product a high rating are inexperienced and haven't used good grout before.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst grout ever!!!! What a nightmare! This stuff was absolutely horrible to work with and it totally destroyed our pebble stone tile that we had planned to lay in our bathroom. It is way too fast setting and it sets like glue! Sticks to everything, it is incredibly hard to work with! Left a film on top that is impossible to remove even after we sanded the tile. We finished the shower floor by switching to normal grout that we mixed ourselves without any ACRYLIC and it turned out beautiful and was super easy. We r sooooo upset that the other section we did with this grout is really messed up. Please do not buy this

In my opinion, even though it is more convenient, it is harder to use than grout I’ve mixed myself. It is not as self-adhesive as grout I’ve mixed myself and has kind of a crumbly texture. It is also harder to clean up and does not wipe off the tile easily. It does not press easily into back-splash 1/16” grout lines. For larger grout lines on a horizontal surface, I expect it works pretty well. Not so much with narrow grout lines on a vertical surface.
