People seem to love or hate this stuff. All I can say is that I am a novice who tiled my floor 24 hours ago, and it looks great and seems solid. I will give it more dry time because of the horror stories here. It didn't stick easily to concrete, which alarmed me at first. I picked up a small V-shaped trowel in the drywall section (don't know what it's called) and would recommend to other novices to use that to mash it down and spread it around, because the big trowel makes it curl up. (Then comb it once the area is covered.) It confused me that the tile company recommended 3/16" grout lines (I bought a 3/16" trowel) but the Simpleset tub recommended a larger trowel. I would have run this dilemma by the helpful tile staff at HD El Cerrito, but didn't notice it until after I was done.

Installed slate floor tiles on a bathroom floor on Wednesday, it's now Sunday and I can feel the tiles moving, squishing around underneath. Now after doing research, i'm finding that this is actually mastic with sand added, IT'S NOT MORTAR, does not fully dry, and is not appropriate for flooring, and is not water proof.
Does home depot offer refunds that will cover the slate tiles and cost of this tub of gooey trash? I can't believe this is even on store shelves

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Zahra It held beautifully and there's easily saved leftovers, no mixing mess, and no clean-up. Do it yourself and no expensive contractors. Love it!
MUCH easier than the dry mix, no messy clean up of containers and stirring things. It applies perfectly and made my tile job a success. I was so nervous as I had heavy porcelain and Marble, but it worked perfectly. And I didn't have to use it all at once like the mix. I simply closed the lid and when I was ready to get back to tiling, it was ready. Loved It!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by CJ Absolutely WORST product I've used
After 96 hrs still not dry. Started with level floor and perfect dry fit. Now have popping corners. Product coverage not correct and after 2 buckets of the junk had to finish job with the cheap stuff. Tiles set with the cheap stuff turned out perfect. Trashed $200 in tiles.

this was recommended to me by an "experienced" home depot employee. seemed like a good product to use for my 1st time backsplash install. wrong! it wouldn't stay on the drywall. would not go on smoothly either. what i did get to stay on the wall wasn't holding up the tiles so i put some on the back of the tile and finallly got some to stick. let it stay there for about a week then decided it didn't look good, it looked lumpy and uneven. it hardened on the tiles but was still soft behind on the wall. decided to remove them & start over since the tiles looked so awful and that was a huge mistake. ripped new holes in the drywall & had to repair it again. all the tiles were ruined & had to buy some new stuff. talked with an employee at a different store & they advised against this using this product. so now, i will try again with another product that isn't premixed.

Both one gallon buckets of premixed Thinset were not useable when the buckets were opened as they had dried out in the bucket. Returned to the store for a refund

The bucket is clearly labeled Thinset Mortar. It is no closer to Thinset Mortar than a bowl of soup. Do not use this product thinking it will cure like real mortar. It does not cure like mortar - it dries. And after it dries, if it gets wet again, it re-liquifies. Do yourself a favor and buy a bag of real mortar. It is better and cheaper. You will thank yourself later.
