How many coats on grout for high traffic areas?

New home with first floor covered with ceramic tile. Bathrooms and showers have ceramic tile. So, we are looking at high traffic and wet areas. We need to properly coat the grout the first time around so we have no problems.

We have dark wood grain tile with dark grout that matched the tile pretty well. My wife wanted me to seal it about a week after it was completed, so I went to home depot and they recommended this product to cover my approximately 700 square feet of tile. I applied in sections that took about 5 minutes each to apply, so I could wipe the last section after it set for 5 minutes per instructions. Application seemed to go fine, looked good when I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning and looked at it, my grout was now a light brown/grey color and does NOT match my tile any longer. Tried cleaning it to get the old color back, but it did not work. My wife is mad, but takes some blame since she wanted it sealed. This may work fine on light colored grouts, but DEFINITELY NOT FOR DARK COLORED GROUT!!!

So far so good. Very easy to apply. I sealed 2 showers and tile floors throughout my 2600 sq ft home. It has done well repealing water in the showers and no stains on the floors. Its been a month with high traffic in the kitchen area. We have a toddler so it has been put to the test. I would buy this product again and I would recommend it.

It completely ruined our grout! We used a sable brown grout and the sealer gave it a white haze. The baking soda trick described in another post did absolutely nothing to help alleviate this. Instead of brown grout that blends with our porcelain wood plank tiles, we now have a white hazy grid that stands out and is such an eye sore!

Don't waste your money if you are planning on using this on unsealed saltillo tiles. I wasted so much money on this product and it does not work. I'm so mad. I called them and they were not helpful. They were boarder line rude and refused to help me or offer any solutions. I applied four coats and it does not protect the tiles. Very disappointed.

I wasn't thinking clearly when I bought and drove home with this $100 gallon jug of sealer. I was in a rush to seal the grout on a newly installed tile floor. After the cashier rang up the purchase, I turned to a Home Depot associate and asked him to remove the security seal. His response was to say that was for the consumer to do. The first indication of problems was leaking of the solution out of the cap and security seal in the trunk of my car when I arrived home. I removed the security seal, unscrewed the child proof cap and found that the tamper evident foil seal had been opened in a star pattern. In retrospect, I should have opened the jug as soon as I had purchased it. When applying, the odor seemed to be chlorine bleach heavy. Stupid me in a rush, I applied it anyway and the grout color varies from the tobacco color it should be to a very pale tan. I was pooched by my own haste. My theory is that someone purchased the product, cleverly defeated the security seal, used a portion and back-filled it with a solution, possibly household bleach and returned it to get their $100 back.
