remove the escutcheon which aesthetically covers the valve, which will expose the shaft of this part (to which the handle as attached);
Unscrew a retaining ring that holds the faucet stem in the proper place withing the valve body;
Pull the faucet stem up out of the valve body and remove a black rubber valve seal and the spring below the seal from the faucet body (it is below the stem) and replacement parts are included in the repair kit.
Install the new spring and rubber seal (carefully) down into the valve body;
Apply a thin layer of Silicone Plumber's grease onto the sides of the valve body (into which the new stem will be installed). This is also available at HD;
Insert the new valve stem down into the valve body (paying attention to the location of interlocking notches in the valve body and the stem which must match to allow full insertion);
Re-install the retaining ring so that it is snug to the valve stem;
Re-install the escutcheon;
Re-install the faucet handle;
Turn the water supply to the faucet back on and pray the newly re-built valve doesn't leak.

Hello Franny and thank you for your question.
To remove the stem unit assembly, first turn off the water to the faucet. You will need a 3/32 allen wrench to loosen the set screw and remove the lever handles. Next, remove the bonnet nut. The stem unit assembly should pull straight out. Replace the faucet stem then put back together in the opposite order. Remember to turn the water back on before Read More

#3S-16H/C Faucet Stem for Delta is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from fixed the faucet leak I ordered the parts at night and was able to pick them up the next morning at my store. The installation was kind of OK following the You tube videos online. I recommend strongly to change the washers and string as well. The washers were worn out and the culprit for the leak.

The Danco Faucet Stem had a plastic stem and the handle would wobble a lot. Using the genuine Delta Faucet Stem with the brass stem, there was no wobble of the handle. Recommend using the original Delta faucet Stem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Faucet stem Stem and spring replacement worked very well BUT!, mini washer is trash! While fumbling around to seat parts in correctly the washer started to break pieces off! (little elasticity to be a rubber washer)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works better for round or straight handled faucets The nylon construction is not intended for angle handled faucets. It is too flexible. Probably ok for round straight handled faucets
