The item comes with no instructions. The Home Depot, Danco and American standard websites also have no instructions. The Valve stem is easy enough to install. But, there is no logical way to convert this from a hot to a cold water tap. This means that you can drop it in and it will turn the water on and off. but the handle will point in the wrong direction. I am positive there is a way to adjust the stop but with no instructions its imposable to determine how.

Save yourself wasted time and buy the genuine replacement made by American Standard. The Danco product is poorly made and is not a satisfactory replacement. If installed on the hot water faucet, the gasket material disintegrates after a week or two and starts dripping. Fortunately, the guy running the plumbing department at my local Home Depot had stocked some American Standard stems and pointed me to those when I returned the leaking Danco. American Standard may send you a replacement stem for free if you call them.

The valve was the closest I could find to the original, long lasting part construction, Other stores parts had a slightly different seal that would not have lasted as long, and were a bit more expensive.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by laceycat No instructions
I had the same experience as one of the other reviewers. Out of the package, the items are set up for hot, not cold installation. There were no instructions and when I went to their website that product wasn't even listed, so no help available. Luckily, one of the reviewers stated how to change it to a cold, by removing the clip and adjusting the ring.

I have replaced this part multiple times. So many times I am tired of doing it. Found out today that Home Depot has the American Standard Part 994053-0070A/H. Bought 2 of them and installed in the sink. We'll see how long this one lasts.
