Answer:
It's called the diverter valve. Usually, when the shower is spraying but there is still considerable water flow down into the tub, the diverter valve is sticking. Normally, if this happens, just purchase and install a new spout with diverter in place. The old valve itself might not be accessible, removable, or available. And it's usually covered with mineral deposits

Answer:
It's a tub spout diverter. If the spout is old, replace it. The gasket will wear out but build up inside of the spout could still prevent it from working properly, even if you replace the diverter.

Answer:
Hello Steve,
That lift is actually called the diverter. No odd technical plumbing terminology this time. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. No, this does not screw on. It is a slip-fit model designed to go onto bare copper pipe and tighten with a set screw. For a model that screws on, try Danco model #88052.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 24 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase. The tub spout was easy to install. My copper supply line came out about 2 1/2 inches from the wall, and the spout fit perfectly. The diverter is working well. After about 5 weeks, all the water is properly diverted to the shower. May 11, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Very difficult So expensive, so difficult to install, as the water pressure makes it pop out if the adjusting screw is not strong enough, but it is very difficult to get access to it and adjust it!! March 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The right Part, for the Job In todays world, the desicion to have someone execute a repair, or to do it yourself is often a tough one. But it would appear I made the right desicion as it was easy and the part performed flawlessly. Thanks Home Depot for being there for me in my time of need. February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement Needed this for a replacement of an old one. It installed very easily and works great. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick & Easy replacement My old diverter went from working fine to not cutting it overnight. Two thirds of the water kept coming out the faucet and a dribble out of the shower. While we plan to update the bathroom next year, I didn't want to spend a lot of money to get this fixed. $16 later I'm out the door, 5 minutes into the install I'm done. It was literally that easy. Make sure to take a few pictures of your current diverter, or better yet, take it with you. The HD staff were incredibly helpful in helping me find the right unit. Now I'm back to showering with no worries. November 22, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by it's a piece of junk...! The lever or valve that diverts the water doesn't close totally the water passage, so it drips constantly when you need it to be closed. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve my problem, yet. December 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't waste your time Old faucet was leaking. Bought this universal replacement faucet. In fact I bought 2 of them because when I installed the first one the water slowly leaked out of the back of it and absolutely poured out the back when I pulled the diverted switch to turn on the shower. The second one did the exact same thing. All instructions were followed to the letter. Ended up putting the old faucet back in place and there was no leaking from the back of it. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase!! If you do not have any knowledge about plumbing, no worries. This product is extremely easy to install. just remove your old spout and then twist this one on. Just make sure the pipe is the same size to fit into the white plastic covering. Once you do that, the spout is ready for use. I would measure the pipe diameter, and then go to your hardware store to make sure the length and width is the same. September 3, 2015
