It doesn't shut off. Even if you turn it it still lets some water go through.
This other review is true:
"This is a volume control, NOT a shut-off valve as advertised by Danco! When challenged with this fact, a Danco representative claimed that the valve is designed to allow some water through to avoid backup pressure damaging the valve."

This valve is perfect for what I wanted to install in the shower to save water.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by phirex Well made solid valve body with smooth control and chrome finish.
This is a well made solid valve body with a very smooth action valve control on the side. Very little effort is required to adjust water flow. One note on the particular valve I received is the quality control of assembly was not maintained. When I installed the valve on the shower pipe and turned on the water, the control handle on the side popped out of the valve body. At that moment I was very disappointed after waiting a week to receive the valve and I was ready to return it for a refund, when upon closer inspection I noticed the set screw used to hold the valve handle in the valve body was not screwed all the way into the fully seated position. After tightening the set screw, the valve worked as promised.

I'm not a rocket scientist, but that sounds like the definition of a VOLUME CONTROL! You cannot say it "shuts off" anything if it doesn't completely shut off the flow of water. Have you ever seen a toilet or sink shut off valve that allows water to continue to flow?

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DCM1 Broke on first use.
Hooked it up to shower, between head and supply. First mild water pressure pushed the knob assembly out of the base. Horrible design. A small "O" ring is all that holds the knob and valve into the base. Did not look defective, just bad design. As I am 25 miles away from the nearest UPS drop-off, was not worth the trip for exchange or refund.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jrt1 Great, simple add-on to save water.
Easy to install, works as described. Appears to be well made, valve operates smoothly, can vary the flow. We use it to shut off water when shaving, shampooing or when getting out of the shower when next in family is in line. You can set it at a very low spray to keep yourself warm, off or a dribble to just to keep the water warm.
