Answer:
YES, the faceplate / backplate is plastic. I returned mine for this reason. A brand new Delta faucet with all the parts is only $60 and this kit is $40.

Hello Dave! The "Teardrop" handle has a snap cap over the center screw. Using a micro-screw driver, carefully pick up the edge of the cover and remove. Hold the handle firmly in place and unscrew the center screw. The handle will slide toward you and off the end of the valve stem. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice quality Great option since I didn't need a valve! Nice quality-works great! July 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good look It looks good, but it's expensive, and little hard to install. March 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great for the price Easy to install, looks great................................................................................... January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very poor quality I'm taking it back. This is poorly made. The handle adapter fits perfectly on the Delta monitor valve system. However, the Danco handle doesn't secure tightly to the Danco provided adapter. Seriously? Danco provides both of these parts and they don't even fit each other snug? While their screw does hold the handle onto the adapter, barely, but the handle's fitting is too big to fit snug over the adapter. So as a result, the handle wobbles like crazy. Terrible! Don't waste your time. Hey HD, dump this product! October 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by just what I needed The house I just purchased is a little over 20 years old. I am not ready to completely remodel the bathrooms yet,but I needed to change the faucet. This was easy, in fact, my son (with very little experience) changed it for me. It works perfectly and was an inexpensive fix. June 2, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic backplate! I wanted to replace the backplate and knob for my shower faucet because is was looking kind of dingey. When I purchased this kit, I realized the knob would be plastic, but the backplate is also plastic and very cheap. The package says chrome. I guess chrome is a color in this case. For $40, I expected metal, not plastic, especially when a brand new Delta faucet with all parts is only $60. Its going back and I'm just going to clean up what I have and purchase the plastic know separately. December 9, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Buy Chrome means plastic in this case. Also, it does not mount flush to wall. It is made for a valve with with about a 4 inch diameter opening around it so that the center piece and sit inside the wall. February 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Shower trim kit was very easy to replace the existing shower fixtures with the replacement kit. July 22, 2014
