Trust me on this. Drill it out first, so you can see the slot, and so it can get through the slot, and grab onto the copper pipe.

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, before you put the extension nipple onto the adapter, drive the screw through the indention on the extension nipple, then back it off and remove any waste pieces.

Missing Part?

The instructions for Fig A. "1/2" Cooper Pipe Slip Connection" talks about an adapter (A) in step C. My package did not contain such an adapter and I suspect that is why I am seeing a leak when I install this replacement spout. Is the adapter an item that I need to buy separately? If so, what is the product name/part #?

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. So that they don't get lost, the adapter and the o-ring come fastened inside the extension nipple. To properly install it, remove the adapter and o-ring and install them separately, then screw the extension nipple on to the adapter. If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to our Product Support team at 800-523-5135 (option 2).

Customer Reviews

Tub Spout with Diverter is rated 2.3 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Confusing instructions, leaks Believe every word of the negative reviews. The instructions are poorly written. Installation is unnecessarily complicated. The unit leaks. A failure of a product in every possible category (i.e., instruction clarity, ease of installation, functionality). The leak was the deal breaker. Returned it yesterday. Won't touch Danco again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Probably trash I have been working with the one that has the hidden diverter, but the issues seem to be the same. Agree with other reviews that this is a poor quality product with directions written by someone who should be flipping burgers. I suggest strongly (and this should be included in the directions) that BEFORE screwing on the spout, the installer should turn on the water and block the water coming out of the extension. This should divert the water to the shower and show if you have any leaks. I have made a little video showing the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrzAAd35oFQ It is interesting that this works well for some and not others. I am wondering if this has to do with the length and width of the stub.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a great Product The product is not easy to use and despite prolong effort, I could not get it to stop leaking. I finally picked up a no-name spout from a local plumbing supply store for half the price of this Danco product and had that installed in barely anytime at all. I am returning this Danco product back to Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of junk Don't ignore the reviews on here. The instructions are intelligible. Once I watched the video online I finally installed it and it leaked down the wall when the diverter was engaged. Avoid this product.

I pre-drilled the hole in the extension nipple before installing it onto the copper pipe. That helped a lot. I also used a healthy dose of silicone grease, not just on the copper pipe, but all around plastic adapter parts, which seems to be preventing leaks, particularly when the diverter is engaged. Installation was not as easy as advertised and, as others have mentioned, the directions are pretty bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product- spout shoots right off the pipe! This tub spout looks nice and was easy to install, however, as soon as you divert the water up to the shower, the pressure shoots the spout right off the copper pipe! It works just fine for running water to the tub but shoots off every time we try to switch over to the shower. We have installed 2 of these at separate times to ensure we followed all the directions, and the same problem keeps happening.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good faucet First time replacing a valve such as this. Had to first figure out how to remove existing faucet. In the process cut groove in the copper nipple. Attached replacement without too much difficulty. Appears to be working. Instructions not all that clear. Could be improved upon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DANCO Tub spout with diverter Picked up the item from the store: the kit was complete, the finish was perfect, installation was very very simple, and functions very well. This was my first to install a tub spout. Overall, well built, easy, operates perfectly.
