Just bought it last night and installed it. Didn't work at all. The adapter is too loose on my copper pipe. The pipe is about 3/4 (0.75) in width. Is there something I am missing or can be bought to make sure the tub spout does not shoot out from the water pressure?
Asked by: enomi
You aren't missing anything. It's not a good product.

Can't install & instructions refer to a non-existent part

I just bought this spout to install on an existing copper pipe nipple. I can't install it correctly. 1# In step e), when I thread the Extension Nipple C onto Adapter A, after a few turns the Adapter just turns when I turn the Extension Nipple. This makes it impossible to align the hole in C with the slot in A. There is no way to stop A from turning when I turn C. 2) The hole in C #for Screw 3) does not go all the way through the plastic. Is it supposed to? How else would I know if the hole in C is aligned with the slot in A? In frustration, I tried assembling the whole thing off the copper nipple and I STILL can't get the screw to break through the plastic on the Extension Nipple C. The plastic at that point is too thick, even though there is an indentation. 3) Step g) says to "...Tighten Extension Nipple C on to Adapter A until it touches Screw G. However, there IS no "Screw G." The only screw in the kit is Screw E. 4) Finally, on the instructions I can't find a contact phone number to call for assistance.

This has a plastic piece (extension nipple) which I believe should have a hole already drilled through it to secure it with the ring and set screw, however the hole is only indented so I drilled it out. Even then when the extension nipple and extension ring are screwed together tight it still is not enough to allow the set screw to go through the assembly. It seems like the indentation wasn't even in the correct location. Makes you wonder if the manufacturer ever tries to install one of these as intended after they are made. Going back to the store for a refund.

It used to be that they used an allen wrench to tighten these up once they were in place, but some bonehead got an idea to use a phillips head instead (probably saves $0.10 in cost) and it is a pain in the butt to get this to tighten properly. Also the design is severely flawed, when you turn the spout to tighten the connection it hits the screw and messes every thing up. Save yourself some headaches and DON'T waste your money. I'm disgusted that Home Depot would even carry garbage like this.

The 88703 is the MOST terrible design I ever seen. The 88434 will install in under 5 minutes, leak free. The 88703's instructions are terrible, the online instructions are also pretty bad. The online instructions can be found here: https://www.danco.com/product/universal-diverter-tub-spout-in-chrome/ At 6, your're supposed to slide the extension nipple onto the stub out nipple and thread onto the adapter aligning hole in the extension nipple with the slot in the Adapter. Pretty straightforward, however :) The stub out nipple will rotate as well when you try to attach the extension nipple. And then they want you to align it with a hole you can't see because there is none (they tell you to use the screw to create one...), and then you still cant see it because of nipple turns all over the place. This one is going back. Get the 88434 instead!!

After the difficulty with OnLine purchase and having to exchange because I was given an open package that had missing parts - Low quality - Directions were horrible to follow - After installation the Spout leaked from behind which is unacceptable so now it is a 3rd trip to the hardware store for a higher quality replacement spout.

The 3rd leak penetrated the wall and ruined the ceiling downstairs. The 4th installation did not leak but did blow off in spectacular fashion. Good move for Home Depot as I now have to purchase a new spout and a gallon of paint. . .

I'm a little disappointed to say that it still leaks from the diverter when engaging the shower head & that's pretty sad being a new spout replacement. Oh well it works I guess.

We had to cut out our tub spout because of a leak leaving only 1 inch of copper out the wall. This tub spout slips over the copper and you tighten it with an Allen wrench from the bottom. Awesome product!
