Answer:
No, this product guide specifically says this shouldn't be used as a skim coat. I'm not a pro, but I've found that you really should follow the instructions on these products closely.
For smoothing out your bathroom walls, I would use an all-purpose joint compound.

Dry Dex is not recommended for "skim coating" of any area including an entire wall, which is what you are describing. You should use "all purpose joint compound" (known as drywall mud) for this type of home improvement project. familyhandyman.com has a good step by step method describing skim coating which is nothing more that putting / rolling on a thin coat of thinned joint compound on a wall, then troweling it, then sanding it smooth. Note that your wall may require more than one coat of compound. Any mistakes can be easily sanded or wiped away with a wet cloth - even after the compound dries. If you are good with a 22" wide drywall mud blade, you may be able to get away with troweling on un-thinned mud vs. thinning it down with water and rolling it on. I recommend using a pole sander or board sander in order to get the flattes finish. For rough sanding, you can use 100 grit rectangular paper. But for finish sanding, use 150 grit. Read Less

DAP® DryDex® Spackling is not recommended for use as a "skim coat" (resurfacing of large areas). Typically "skim coating" applications are done with joint compounds.

Answer:
Surface must be clean, dry and free of foreign material. Spackling will change color to white when surface can accept a second application or is ready to be painted or sanded in 1 to 5 hours. Wet sanding is recommended to avoid generation of dust.

Answer:
Absolutely NOT, that will not work. What you need is concrete patching compound. you will need to use this before etching the concrete.

DAP® DryDex® Spackling is intended for use in minor cosmetic repair projects. A concrete repair, with dimensions as wide and deep as described, would require the use of specialty concrete repair compounds.

Answer:
I would not use Drydex outdoors because once moisture gets to it, it will disolve. I'd recommend DAP Plastic Wood. It drys hard, is weatherproof after application, can be sanded to a feather edge, and takes stain and paint well. DAP Plastice Wood is very durable.

Hi Bobby,
Spackle is not the best option, it will not stand up to foot traffic. I would use an epoxy wood filler.

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by This product is not for outdoors, don't waste your time I used this product last summer, scraped and prepared my house wooden window sills and frames. By this spring, all the paint had peeled off leaving a white powdery substance. At first I was not sure it was the primer or the Dap spackling. I prepped the windows again using this product on the cracks etc yesterday. On purpose I left some out to dry in order to test how it would take moisture as rain was forecast the next day. It went to mush just like drywall compound. DO NOT USE THIS OUTSIDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though the label states INTERIOR/EXTERIOR You will totally waste your time as it will need to be done again. It might work well inside, it is easy to sand, but that is it. July 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very thin product, you will need multiple coats The color change works like a charm, but as a spackle... it doesn't fill gaps, nail holes (even thumb tack size), screw holes of any kind--the product is extremely thin, like pink ketchup. Every single hole will dimple as it dries forcing multiple coats. Since it is only good for extremely fine cracks, I cannot recommend this product, use CrackSHOT instead. July 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by "AWESOME" We have used this product as a leveling agent prior to putting down vinyl, nail holes, it is the BEST spackle I have ever used! July 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best wall repair product on the market Best product on market! Great value. Takes the guess work out of when it is ready to be sanded. August 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by would not buy this product again. diy guy, this product will not come out of the tube easily. bought at different stores suspecting bad batch but all tubes were the same. too hard to squeeze out. May 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worst product for DIYers This product is not for DIYers, very painful to apply. I thought I was using Playdoo. February 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not perform This product "drys" to the consitency of dry toothpaste or cake icing - in no way does it harden up like dry wall mud. Can be easily indented, scraped, and peeled up with a fingernail without hardly trying after many hours of drying. The label mentions "for repairs deeper than 1/4" . . . . no way would I use this for deeper repairs other than a small hairline in an indoor paint finish that i'd be painting over in a non-traffic area. I purchased a couple 8 oz batches and tried to find a use for this after purchase and test it's performance on a home project, but was un-impressed and will stick with traditional drywall mud which drys hard - something I can have confidence in placing any paint over it. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Yeah. ... this is some good stuff I hade a few holes in my walls from doors that struck them when opening. Went on pink, and dried white just likeit says. Dries fast, and very easy to sand. Well worth the price and goes a long way. I would definitely recommend this product! March 1, 2015
