My rain barrel has a split in a seam - will this seal it?

My rain barrel has a split in a seam - will this seal it?
Asked by: BeeMaMa
DAP Aquarium Silicone would not be recommended for use in the application as described. Most rain barrels are made from food grade HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) plastic. Silicone based sealants do not adhere to this type of plastic.

is it safe to use on a glass coffee carafe ?

Asked by: popeye
It is aquarium safe, so it should be, however in the product description someplace, it had that it was acceptable for, what was the phrase? It was something like temporary food placement. It was an odd statement because I thought that since it is aquarium safe it would be food safe. But, look at the product description somewhere for something about this to clarify what I'm telling you.

2.8 oz. Silicone Aquarium Sealant is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this again & provide my own cap. I have used DAP products my whole life. As a sealant they are the best; however, after I sealed my coffee carafe, which used only a tiny bit, I realized, there was no way provided to close the tube or nozzle to prevent the whole tube from drying out before the next use. Fortunately, I have had this problem before with manufacturers who failed to "think it through" and simply used a wire connector on the nozzle. I would expect more from such a professional company. Just make sure to have a mediumse size wire connector handy before opening the tube, Otherwise, it gets 5 stars.

This works great as long as your glass is good and clean before putting it on. The only issue I ran into is it is too small being not enough silicone, so now I just get the tubes for a calking gun.
