Does this product work well for filling nail holes in interior PVC base molding trim? If not, wha...

Does this product work well for filling nail holes in interior PVC base molding trim? If not, what is DAP's best product for that and for filling any small corner gaps etc.? Thanks.
Asked by: Rob
The work that you describe would require two different products. For gaps and joints, such as inside/outside corners where joint movement is likely, we would recommend DAP 3.0 Window, Door and Siding Sealant or DAP DYNAFLEX 230. For nail hole filling, CrackShot would be an excellent choice, however, as with all spackling compounds, it must be painted for durability.

How thick can you apply this with out it cracking and does it work well with fiberglass tape

Asked by: Justin
As a general rule, it is best to keep applications to 1/4" or below. For repairs deeper than 1/4”, apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. To add extra strength to the repair, DAP Crackshot can be used with fiberglass reinforcing tape.

8 oz. Crackshot High-Performance Spackling Paste is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product! Raised our home and used crack-shot where needed. Easy to use, easy to sand, easy to paint on. Made life with several 'cracks' easy to fix.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very very soft at 48 hours as used./ I used it to salvage a bad job by casual hot mix professionals who left a gap in drywall. I used armature to hold it, and it was a joy to do. Some of it was in an areas where there was a 3/8 gap between rock and baseboard near a forty five corner and the short drywall. It was used with support, but now at about 36 hours it remains soft to a hard edge, and easily cut with a taping tool edge. I sure wish there was a online source of what to expect out of this new material, since it evidently replaces older familiar material in stores. I recommend only circumstantially.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best patching compound you can buy. wall patch , trim patch and metal door repair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed This spackling is not "high performance" as the can states. It is only about as hard as drywall compound at more than double the cost. The problem I found was that it stays water soluble. Because of that any filling will swell when water base paint is applied. I ended up spot priming every nail hole with oil base primer after sanding. If you are trying to do a first class paint job try another product. I don't know how it can be rated "exterior use" if it remains permanently water soluble after drying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I had a couple of holes in my wall that needed to be patched up before I painted my bathroom. This product is excellent just allow a full 8 hours dry time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great for nail holes! I had to fill (what felt like 1,000,000,000,000 holes) in the baseboard and shoe I put down, and this stuff did the trick. Very minimal shrinking and sanded easier than Famowood/Dap Plastic Wood. Leave the hole a little proud (sticking out above the wood) and sand it flush for a finish you won't see nail holes in. My dad is a painter of 25 years and says this stuff is ok (not the best he's come across) and it does a great job. It needs no primer and can be sanded and painted over within a couple of hours. Is it rock hard like a wood filler, NO. Does it do what you need it to do for trim work....Heck yeah it does!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracks easily, and bubbles over tape. This spacking paste failed miserably. Cracked the next day, and when using tape bubbles come through. Other mix powder with water spackling paste succeeded where this paste failed miserably.
