Customer Questions & Answers

What do you do when the calking cracks after you used it according to directions?

We also used the dap 35 year warranty and calked our whole house and then painted, days later, checking for touch up spots all the calking seemed to have shrunk, now we have to recalk and paint again, we don't want to use the same product again, we are out hundreds of dollars and I took the week off work to paint, now it's all for nothing.

cedar moves and should not have been caulked in every joint. it will do it no matter what caulking you use.

Confused about dry time before painting over

Why do the online specs say you can paint over the caulk in 20 minutes and the use and care PDF say 40 minutes?
Asked by: 24SevnLibrarian
For normal thin caulk lines you can paint over this in like 20 minutes, but if you lay the caulking on kind of think. Say to span a 3/16 gap. Then Id wait about 45 minutes before painting. It really depends on how you lay the caulk.

DAP ALEX FAST DRY is not recommend for use in shower and bath applications. For this type of project, we recommend the use of DAP 3.0 Kitchen, Bath & Plumbing High Performance Sealant.

How cold can it be outside when applicating?

Asked by: Noel
For Best Results we recommend application in temperatures above 40ºF. (and rising). We also caution not to apply apply when rain or freezing temperatures are forecasted before full cure can occur. As this is an acrylic-latex (water based) sealant, cold weather and high humidity will slow down cure time.

Caulk gushed out too quickly and would not stop until removed from caulk gun. Very runny also. The caulk I laid down started to crumble and bead while I was attempting to smooth it out since way too much caulk was applied since it is so thin. Sad! Fortunately, I only purchased a tube of this trash to finish the very end of a job so at least the whole project isn't ruined. Use DAP Alex Flex 10.1 oz. White Premium Molding and Trim Sealant instead. Marginally more expensive but far superior for interior molding work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not really paintable You can paint it, but the paint doesn't bond well. Where I taped near it, the paint just pulls right off the caulk when pulling the tape off. In this case "more doing" is just "more redoing".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does stated uses and a few more I have used alex fast dry for several different purposes. From making trim work look good after painting to actually mounting things to a wall like signage and mirrors. So far all of the things mounted were small; less than 24" X 24". When working with the fast dry version of alex it is good to remember that it skins quickly and if it is something that shows can create a less than perfect surface. For this reason I do not recommend adding color to it.
