Answer:
For normal thin caulk lines you can paint over this in like 20 minutes, but if you lay the caulking on kind of think. Say to span a 3/16 gap. Then Id wait about 45 minutes before painting. It really depends on how you lay the caulk.

We also used the dap 35 year warranty and calked our whole house and then painted, days later, checking for touch up spots all the calking seemed to have shrunk, now we have to recalk and paint again, we don't want to use the same product again, we are out hundreds of dollars and I took the week off work to paint, now it's all for nothing.

Answer:
More than likely the wall is not insulated properly and the cold vs hot air is causing dramatic expansion and contraction before able to set properly.

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Eh! Look for something better. I don't care for this product. It may be relatively inexpensive, but the results don't last. We had the interior of our house painted and the painters used this on all joints. Cracks have appeared everywhere in less than a year. I've used this product as well. I recently took out two tubes (purchased last year). When I cut the tips off, water ran out. Huh? Then I shook them (which I've never done with caulk) and put them into the caulking gun. Caulk gushed out like thin toothpaste. I threw both tubes into the garbage. I can't recommend this product. January 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My go to caulking. This is my go to caulk when needed in any dry area that is painted, going be painted, or has potential to be painted later. I call it the baseboard caulk because that is mainly where I use it as I find it to be perfect for that. Wall shift and move so sometimes there are gaps between the wall and the baseboard. Especially on textured walls, but I have found this stuff can span a pretty large gap with out shrinking to much or cracking. I have caulked caps up to about 3/8 of an inch with this stuff with no problem. Definitely not the ideal situation but it worked. This calking is also good for getting clean paint lines on textured walls. Lay out your tape and spread very thin layer of this calking over the edge of the tape so no paint runs underneath it. Let it dry. Paint as usual and remove the tape for a crisp clean line. Also great for crown moldings. The fact that this caulk isnt to messy and while its still wet you can clean up the lines very easily with a wet sponge is great. It also paints well. Some paintable caulk has a sheen to it when dry and that sheen can either make the paint flake off over time or it can show through your paint changing the tone of it slightly. I have ever found that to be a problem with this stuff. May 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not Quite Dry After 20 Minutes This caulk was not dry and ready to paint in 20 minutes, as claimed, although it did dry faster than a regular caulk. I applied a small bead to interior wall and door trim and came back after 30 minutes or so to tape off the trim for painting...and found it still wet in some places. I don't want to be critical, but it did say it was paintable within 20 minutes. Otherwise the caulk performed as expected and it was competitively priced. I give 4 stars. January 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does stated uses and a few more I have used alex fast dry for several different purposes. From making trim work look good after painting to actually mounting things to a wall like signage and mirrors. So far all of the things mounted were small; less than 24" X 24". When working with the fast dry version of alex it is good to remember that it skins quickly and if it is something that shows can create a less than perfect surface. For this reason I do not recommend adding color to it. July 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible, terrible caulk--cracks and peals within a week. I used this to fill in the gaps on my kitchen cabinet door faces as part of a painting project. I sanded and primed the doors, then used the DAP product to fill in the spaces between the door panels. I left it cure a full 24 hours before painting over--well beyond what the instructions recommended. The caulk started cracking within a few days and continues to get worse and worse two weeks later. Huge unsightly cracks on otherwise perfectly finishes cabinets throughout my kitchen. THIS CAULK IS TOTAL JUNK. This is not the first time I've had issues with DAP caulk. Unless you use a bead that's a full 1/4'' thick every DAP caulk I've used starts to crack quickly--as in a few weeks. I can't believe Home Depot even carries this stuff. STAY AWAY!!!!!! January 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible product!! I bought a couple cases of this calk. I used it in warm, mild and cold weather. I calked EVERY outside and inside window. EVERY SINGLE BEAD HAS CRACKED. THIS IS STUFF IS COMPLETE JUNK. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great to work with Dries as fast as it says. Work in sections instead of hitting the whole room at once. Doesn't shrink, nice texture. Tried a few other ones but always come back to this. August 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the price I have used this product for many years. For the price it does a great job. If you want more silicone in your caulking, then you need a 50yr. Price goes up accordingly. For general painting needs, it does the job well! Adheres well to a properly prepared surface, sanded and cleaned! June 23, 2015
