This product did dry clear but unless I am blind, it was not on the label about how the product would behave in particular.

Yes, a simple caulking gun is what you need.

Soap & water clean up?

Asked by: Whirlwind
DAP Alex Plus can be cleaned up with soap and water while still in the uncured form. After the product is cured, it must be removed by physically cutting/scraping. Dried films or residue left after mechanical removal can be cleaned up with with a petroleum solvent such as mineral spirits (paint thinner).

can I use this to seal the space between the baseboard trim and the hardwood floor.

We have mice and I am not sure of their entry point. Can I use this to seal the spaces between the floor trim and the wooden floor? Would this help to keep the mice out or it there a better product in this line?
Asked by: AliT
If you have floating hardwood floors do not seal the gap between the trim and the floor. The easiest place for mice to enter is where the kitchen sink drain line enters the wall. There is normally a gap there where mice can enter. If the gap is small this caulk will seal it. If the gap us more than 1/4" wide I would seal it with a spray foam.

Customer Reviews

Alex Plus 10.1 oz. All-Purpose Caulk Clear is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from pretty good stuff This is a very good product. It should be know that in the instructions it says there is a 10 minute tooling time. That doesn't work for me. at room temperature I'll run about 10' of of a straight bead, less for more detailed work, before tooling it. Once even a slight skin has formed you wont get a nice clean face. For deep cracks I recommend not filing the whole void, fill less than a 1/4" or so if you can. This will greatly reduce the amount of shrinkage you'll get. If you want to fill deep voids plan on doing 2 or more coats with a day or more dry time between them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I trust this product I have had nothing but success with this product. Part of that success is using it as intended as specified on the tube. Joint fill is only as good as your preparation of surfaces. Clean, dry surfaces no more than a 1/2" applied at at the appropriate temperature and humidity. It's really that easy. I will continue to have success with this product for years to come.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would not buy this product ever again. I have destroyed 2 tubes of Dap Alex. The caulking gun has pressed the plunger further into the tube without allowing any caulk to come out of tip. Yes, after cutting open the tip to accurate size of need. Still need to complete the job, but this might not be the best product to use. Frustrated. Pfooey!!!! Will be returning product to store where purchased. If they don't take back, then returning directly to DAP.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buy Something Else This caulk go on white and is supposed to dry clear. Used this over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't turned completely clear. The edges are clear but the center of the bead I applied is still white. Looks horrible. Now I have to dig it all out and replace with REAL clear caulk. Save your time and money and buy something else. Very disappointed with this company and product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not good It continues to run from the caulk gun forever after releasing the application trigger. I was not satisfied with one application so I had to apply a second after waiting 48 hours for it to dry. Its not something I will buy again or would recommend you buy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product sucks. We did three apartments in Santa Monica, over three hundred windows. More than three quarters of them leaked with the last passing of rain. When I spoke to the company about it, they basically said it was my problem. Never again will I use this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed in the clear Alex I have tried over 20 tubes on my greenhouse windows only to have to dig out and replace what I did one month ago

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alex Plus is my first choice Alex Plus has been my first choice all-purpose caulk for decades, first in New Jersey where rain and humidity where the primary exterior challenges, and now in north-central Nebraska where temperature extremes and intense sun are the challenges. I consistently get excellent results. My first and most often repeated lesson as an apprentice was, "Understand your medium." Wood moves. Some species more than others. Some environmental conditions cause more movement than others. That's the basic understanding the wood medium part. Caulks dry differently, adhere differently, and harden or remain flexible differently. As long as one understands and selects the right medium for the job, and matches media that are complementary, there will be success. But when one attempts to bind up a board and batten wall with caulk, for instance, product failure and dissatisfaction are bound to follow. The board and batten system was designed to accommodate the movement of the wide boards, so let them move, or find a caulk that cures with the elasticity of a glob of chewing gum on hot pavement.
