Questions & Answers

Is DAP Kwik Seal Plus OK for outdoor use?

We have a pipe sticking out of our roof. Around it, there is space, which causes water to run down the pipe into our garage. Is it OK to seal the pipe with Kwik Seal Plus? We live in Pennsylvania, where we experience temperatures from about 0 deg F to 95 deg F.

Avoid All caulk products made by DAP. They are not water-resistant and will dissolve in no time. Basically wortless! Get GE caulk instead.

Cannot read directions on caulk tube. Type too small. How to use to set sink drain?

Asked by: Salty
When caulking, always remove all old remnants and make sure everything underneath and around the area is completely dry. Any little moisture will destroy the caulk resulting in costly time-consuming tear-downs and rework. Instructions: cut the tip in an angle, slowly and evenly spread as you run along the edges. Finally use your finger (index or middle) and smooth out the edges. Wipe clean (running along) the edges with a damp towel and try not to push the middle part where the caulk is sealing. If you have a fan, blow it dry overnight. Instruction for this caulk calls for: ready to paint after 2 hours, and wait after 36 hours before exposing to water. Before doing the work, I'd seriously look into replacing this brand of caulk if I were you. DAP isn't a very good brand at all when it comes to caulking. They make decent dry-wall (dry-dex) spackling though. I recommend GE caulk.

Asked by: sonspot
DAP KWIK Seal Plus can be used for minor repair projects such as resecuring a loose tile, soap tray or trim piece providing that at least one of the two materials to be bonded are porous and that the application conditions are in accordance with the package label recommendations.

Customer Reviews

Kwik Seal Plus 10.1 oz. Kitchen and Bath Adhesive Caulk with Microban is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware I had the same issues as another reviewer, thus why I got on the site to see what this product is actually for... Applied as per the directions, let set the 24hrs... DON'T USE THIS FOR A SHOWER OR ANYWHERE WATER WILL TOUCH IT. It is in no way waterproof and I wouldn't call it a silicone. Wherever water has touched it it has gone back to its original state if not worse. I have to now wet it apparently, and wipe it off and go buy some Mono or something that is actually a waterproof silicone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product works great! Used it to adhere a plastic soap dish and shelf onto a PORCELAIN TILE shower wall. It worked GREAT, but my other half wants to change the location of the soap dish. What solvent will loosen the adhesive sealant so I can remove it

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I caulked my shower with this product. What caught my eye when picking out this caulk at Home Dep... I caulked my shower with this product. What caught my eye when picking out this caulk at Home Depot was that this product claims to be more stain and mold resistant, and so as the name "Kwik" implies that it would set fast, later I find this product to be anything but quick or "kwik". I'm not a handy man pro so I don't know a good caulk from a hole in the ground, so I just picked out what looked good. After reading all the bad reviews on this site, and on Amazon, I'm kicking my self for not doing my research before picking out my caulk. I about had a heart attack thinking that I am facing certain doom as soon as I take my first shower. I decided to get an expert opinion so I called DAP. The person I talked to seemed very knowledgeable and told me that the common mistake is that people do not let the caulk set long enough, and that I should probably wait 14 days for the caulk to cure, to be sure. The instructions say to wait 24 hours for the caulk to cure. I, as I'm guessing most as well, do not want to wait 14 days for caulk to cure! My main goal in writing this review at this point is to let other people know that the cure time may not be 24 hours as advertised, this is told to me by DAP technical staff (the person that I talked to at DAP). The DAP support person told me that this is a water based product and all of the water needs to be removed during the curing process. DAP should change their instructions, and make the instructions clear about the curing time. I'm going to wait 14 days to let the caulk cure, I don't want to wait 14 days, but I also don't want a caulk melt down like others have experienced. I will try to update this review in a month from now, and I hope for good luck!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total waste of time My biggest mistake was not to check the reviews on this product before I used it. After 72 hours, the product looks like it has cured, but once it gets wet it dissolves into a mess. I tried it a couple of times, and same results. I've used other DAP products, but this this DAP is garbage. Please stay away from this one. Imagine prepping a clean surface and end up with a mess just so you have to clean over again with the right caulk. Your time is worth way too much to waste like this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Home Depot should stop selling this product - it doesn't work. I bought this while browsing in the store. Had I read the online reviews, I would have purchased another product. My experience matches all of the others. It's been about 2 months and it is now cracking and has become discolored. Given that almost all the reviews are bad, Home Depot should stop selling this product. All of us who have written a bad review will have to purchase another product and caulk again. Home Depot: Please remove this product from your stores - it does not work as advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Caulk I've Ever used Used this in a bathtub, waited a full 48 hours before exposing to water, and it still failed to cure. And the bathroom was dry and had a fan going and a window open with a temperature range of 60-80°. Over a few days it formed holes in the caulk where the water dripped down, and I knew I'd have to redo the whole thing. Three weeks after installing it, I tore it out, only to find the interior of the caulk STILL hadn't cured. After 3 WEEKS. It was goopy and took forever to remove so I could put something decent in there. Second application of a different brand cured more in 4 hours than this stuff did in 24 hours. And this

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should not be sold! Used in our shower. Waited 48 hours to dry. Starts dissolving right away! Each quick shower we took ended up with a pile of white water on our bathroom floor leaked through the holes that developed from the dissolving.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst ever! I bought this because I had a small job and didn't think I needed to buy an entire tube of caulk. I used it in my bathtub where the frame of a sliding glass door meets the tub. The product says "Premium Kitchen & Bath Adhesive Sealant". Old sealant was removed. Everything cleaned and dried before applying. Waited 3 days before going back into the tub and using the shower (the instructions recommend 24 hours). After a day I noticed water was seeping through. The second day I saw the sealant actually buckling and coming off all by itself without touching it. The last time I did this I used silicone and lasted for 6 years. This didn't last a day! Had to remove the whole thing and just ended up buying GE silicone and applied that. I will never buy anything with the name DAP on it again. I wish I had a picture of this to show how bad this product is. It's far from "Premium" and it it's no "Sealant". Stay away from this product.
