I needed to replace a leaky plastic pop-up drain that a previous owner installed in my downstairs bathroom. This replacement was perfect. It is a higher quality product than the plastic drains, installs easily, and is very reasonably priced compared to the fancy brands. It took me about 30 minutes to replace my old drain and now there are no leaks.
There are no instructions provided in the box. Make sure you get some plumber's putty to set the drain in before tightening the nut underneath. Do not overtighten.
NOTE: The product photo is wrong, it incorrectly shows a drain stopper on a chain. This product has a pop-up drain.

These are fairly easy to install. I have found that taking the old one out sometimes take a lot longer than installing the new assembly. One of the biggest problems with these drains is people not using Teflon tape on the threads in the center where the shinny chrome pipe on bottom goes into the rough looking top. This is the only place I have ever had these leak so I do this each time now. Also make sure you have the gaskets in the lever correctly installed. The ball of the lever should seat in the washers and the nut compresses these down to make a good seal. Tighten just enough to make the lever move freely but stiff. Other than that, this is a great product.

all parts were in the package with cryptic instructions on the back but it does the job. The stopper is also included which is not evident in the picture. Just need plumbers putty, and some pipe thread seal or compound.

The lack of instructions adds considerably to the installation time and frustrations. There should especially be advice on detecting leaks after the first running of water. There should be instructions to inch up the main gasket and the "slip" washer with a large screwdriver to make it snug to the top. If you don't pry up the washer, you might think the gasket is tight when you get pretty strong resistance, but, the gasket still has a quarter inch of travel to go to be correctly tightened.
There is no mention of the tail piece being independent of the rest of the assembly. It needs a good tightening to be leakproof. I kept working on the pop-up opening, when the actual leak was coming from the tail having been loosened during the installation. It took forty-five sweaty minutes to discover the true source of the leak. Some instructions on which connections could be improved with teflon or a swipe of plumber's grease would be appreciated.
Good product...lousy instructions. I would not recommend to home fixers until comprehensive instructions are included. Maybe a HD "actor" could do a YouTube for this product, making sure to address testing for leaks and how to correct.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JimInOhio1 Excellent quality for the price
First of all, the item pictured with the sink stopper on a chain is the wrong one. This has a pop-up drain stopper.
For the price of this item you get a very high-quality assembly.
Make sure that you remove the lower pipe of the assembly that screws into the center section where the pop-up lever goes into it, and wrap it with Teflon tape (and anywhere else that you can) to prevent any dribbling.

I'm no plumber, but I've done my fair share of sink installs, and I've never had a drain that leaked like this.
Maybe I'm not following the instructions. I put silicon under/around the rim of the drain top, so that's not the problem. I think it's the rubber gasket that is screwed to the top of the bottom side of the drain that is the issue. The two square holes allow water into the drain area (not sure why they exist), and the rubber gasket does not successfully contain the water.
If I'm doing something wrong, or need to do something else, please tell me and I'll try it, and change my review accordingly.

Cheap plastic pop-up stopper (as seems normal).
Missing instructions on assembly install.
Missing washer for sink side, or instructions to use plumber's putty or other sealant. Without this it leaks.

My sink developed a leak from the pop-up assembly. Replacement was easy. This part is heavier duty than the price tag would suggest. If you need one, go to the store and verify all the parts are in the box before taking it to the register. Mine was missing the pop-up rod and I had to make a second trip to exchange it. Otherwise, this is a good product.
