This product is great to make sure you are deep watering trees. I put the hose end into the top and let it slow drip.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by OddJob Very useful purchase
I was a bit skeptical at first, but the price was right to experiment. To my surprise, I found that it worked beautifully. (I purchased four units). The cap on the top is strong enough to take repeated hammer blows to get it inserted into really compacted earth. Further, the spike is also strong enough to take the hammer blows without cracking. Once in the soil, the weep-holes are sufficiently large to drain away water that drips in from the top. My old orange tree is now looking much healthier, despite the devastating California drought.
Practice Tip for insertion into soil. Keep water flowing into it, and hammer periodically. The water softens the soil below, and the spike eventually enters the soil without too much resistance.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kristy Won a bet with my husband and my tree won too!
Just bought one of these stakes today for my sick tree to put fertilizer in and my husband was certain it would not go in our ground which is very rocky and hard. I am happy to report we hammered in with the slege hammer and viola...not only did the stake not break (husband thought that too) but we got all 36" into the ground!! We got our fertilize in with a good healthy drink and I tell you...my tree is already thanking me...oh yea..and the husband owes me dinner from our bet. A win win day for Mom! :) I HIGHLY reccomend Deep Drip Stakes and can atest that they DO go in bad ground.

I have been using the 14" stakes on aspen trees I planted 4 summers ago, and all three are thriving. I ran an extra line off my lawn sprinkler system combined with an Orbit 8-Port NPT Irrigation Manifold with Filter. Every time the lawn gets watered the aspen also get a drink.
I just installed 3 of the 24" stakes around a new maple tree with similar results. If your soil is hard I suggest using a deep root waterer, like the Ross, to soften the soil first. Don't try to pound then into dried out clay soil.

It is better to applied when the tree is just planted. It is very hard to punch them into the ground for developed trees.

I lived in TX for 10 years and my father used these stakes religiously. I moved to AZ in 2000 and have used a number of stakes....I have 6 around my young trees, and they work perfect. I have ficus and live oak and eucalyptus trees and using these stakes with a drip line in the top keeps their roots from coming above ground. Just insert a landscape drip line in the top of the stake and your done!

I've been looking for these for about a year and they finally showed up at my local HD. We have very hard soil around some of our trees, but these took the pounding necessary to get them in the ground. In fact, my dead blow hammer broke, but the stakes went in.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jeff Good, but one stake broke in half
I ordered 4 stakes and they went in ok at first, but once it hit hard soil one of the stakes broke in half leaving the bottom half buried in the ground. The seam that connects what appears to be a 14" stake to the top part is not very strong.
